acceleration noise....help plzzzz

when ever i put in drive and especially on 1st gear , it would take abit longer to change to 2nd gear and the 2nd is slightly doing it to.... also it makes like a rattling or like a rumbling sound..... i took it to a shop and they told me it was a water pump. so i got it replaced... at first it sounds goods, but not like normal.... less noise than be4....so i thouhgt it might be the timing change.... andyone know whats the problem... no check engine light on!!!!
