I have a 2001 Qx4 with 126k on it.

I have the dreaded weak spring issue causing bottoming out. I would like to upgrade to AC springs and get their MD or HD .5 inch lift. I plan on occasionally towing a 3500lbs boat/trailer.

I have already read the suspension 101 thread.

Couple questions...

I am looking at just getting springs for now until I have some extra cash for shocks. My shocks still seem to be in adequate shape so probably would replace them in the next yr. Would replacing just the springs be fine?

Does anyone have experience with MD vs HD? I would like to maintain a decent ride. do HD's have a harsh ride compared to MD?

Thanks for your help.

Shocks are like $25 a piece for the rear I would wait and do it all at once.

But yes you can do rear springs only without replacing the shocks, but there so cheap it really isnt worth it

$25 a piece?

It's been a while since I've shopped for shocks, but I don't remember any shock that I would actually put on my car being that cheap.

To be honest, I don't think anyone has any experience with the MD or HD springs, however, a number of us have the 2" lift springs on - and even those don't produce a "harsher" ride. I would say you'd be fine purchasing either. Just consider what kind of loads you'll be carrying. Do you tow? Do you have a large sound system? Do you typically carry heavy cargo?

I would imagine you'd be fine purchasing the medium duty springs if you want a little stiffness but are that concerned about getting a harsher ride. However, if you answered yes to any of the above questions, I would go for the HD springs, or else you're just gonna end up destroying a new set of springs.
