Its been 90+ the last couple days in DC, so I turned on the AC for the first time and little hard black pieces came spewing out. I assume they are gaskets from the ducting.

Question is what do I do now, and how to prevent the seals from drying out?

Or fungus and bacteria clumps. Not running AC once per week [even in winter] and then shutting it off a few minutes prior to turning the car off is a good way to create a breeding ground for who knows what.

BG and other companies make spray AC evaporator antifungials. I use something at least once per month year around.

Failure to exercise the heat control door is a good way to seize the hinge and spend $1000 pulling the dash apart to change the door [especially on 94-96Q].

Ewww AC herpes!!!

Hmmm seized heater control door. Q45tech would the AC controller show this as an error in diagnostic mode. I live in AZ and my heater has never worked.

Dennis, when you say running the AC in the winter, do you mean the AC specifically or AC/heater?

Also, I'm pretty sure that its hardened rubber that came out - if it was seals, what do I need to do?

Well, first off, compressor seals and such are not going to travel throught the evaporator coils, unlees they are blown wide open, then you have much more serious problems.

What you are seing is probably hardened and decayed rubber used to seal the air distribution pathways and perhaps the air mix door.

The AC is running, unless you use economy mode only. to be sure, use it in defroster mode in the winter.

We have now replaced 5 [in about 4years] [94-96Q] heater door for broken pin hinge.

The diagnostic only shows the position of the accuator, which is correct even with a broken door.

Systems works fine but won't switch between heat and/or cold by varying the thermostat set buttons.Usually fails no heat.

Normally I just leave my heater on AUTO so it runs the AC all the time.... Im unconvinced of it affecting any gas mileage.....

NY94,

Just after getting my 93 when blowing the AC on vent full blast I had several small flat black chunks of what appeared to be a porus plastic.

It kinda looked like badly UV degraded black plastic. Almost had a carbon/charcoal look to it.

Is this like what you had? I think it must be part of the duck work or a stuck door seal that has dried out and broken up.

AC blows colder than anything I've ever driven!

Good Luck, Matt

I have to take it in to have my whining compressor pulley looked at, I'll see what they have to say then. Thanks for the replies.
