im planning to remove my ac unit and all related parts, my car is a 97 240sx. the belt for the ac compressor also runs the water pump from the crank pulley. can i just use a smaller belt to run the water pump from my crank pulley since the ac will not be there anymore?

yeah, as long as you can tension it you will be fine that way. for max weight savings ditch the whole compressor, condensor(better airflow to the radiator), evaporator, and reciever/drier.

i dont know i was hoping you could tell me, is the ac compressor under the power steering pump and does it run of its own belt?

most of the nissans I work on that have 3 belts, the a/c belt usually is its own belt. On the newer cars that have one serpentine belt obviously the A/C is on the same belt. but the water pump is chain driven on those.

To answer your question yes the A/C is its own belt. The power steering belt runs the water pump and yes the A/C is directly below the P/S pump.
