alright i've got the inside of this thing tubbed. down to bare metal from my seat back. i relocated the battery and removed the tray. now i just took out the radiator looking thing for the ac, all the hoses are gone and the weird cylender thing that was attached to the battery tray is now out. what should i do about the big (compressor i think) thing with the pulley. it's below and a little in front of the header. can i rip that out to and just attach a smaller belt? and should i plug the holes that go into the firewall. i can get pics of anything if youd like. thanks~ben

yeah, you can remove the compressor and use a smaller belt. the holes in the firewall can be plugged or not. i use them to run other wires and stuff. did you remove the evaporator core? thats the thing behind the glove box that has the pipes running through the firewall.

I dunno about the DE, but on the single cam motor the compressor is the only thing driven by the A/C belt, so you can just do away with it. What else is driven on the DE?

To get to the evaporator, you need to remove the glove box and remove the black box behind it. Make sure you get the evaporator and not the heater core, which is to the left of it.

Yup, as long as you leave the heater core you can have heat.

As long as the A/C compressor and that pulley are the only two pullies (besides the crank pulley) on that particular drive belt, it should be fine to leave it off. That pulley is the A/C idler pulley and is only used for tightening the A/C belt.

The item in the first pic is the evaporator core, that's the one you wanna remove.

I wouldn't touch anything else under there. I think the second pic is the blower motor but I'm not sure.

Boy talk about going all out...lol

Couple things here. 1) in your first pic you show the idler pulley and the bracket is attached to. If you notice there is nothing else attached to that bracket, the pully on it is mearly for adjusting the belt. Can you say weight reduction??? remove the braked with the pully attached, say bye bye to about 2 lbs.

2) you have removed the Evaporator in your second pic which was sandwiched against the blower in your third pic. Here lies the problem. Now you have a huge gap between your blower motor and your heater core. Therefore you blower will not blow heat into the car instead you will have a hurrane goin on in the passenger foot well area. you need to do one of 2 things here. 1 put your evap case back to gether without the core in it and seal the holes where the lines went through it then reinstall it in the car. Or option 2 go to the wrecking yard and loacte a 240 without ac and rob its duct where the evap should be and put that in your car. It is a smaller peice then your evap case and is more of a flow directing duct to your heater core, this will give you a better discharge air speed.
