my system as posted before sprayed all the freon out onto back of radiator. it was recently filled with free12 the old r12 replacement and I think the guy over filled it. With closer inspection I see no leak on the seal around clutch but on the high pressure hose on the top of compressor there is what parts lists call a safety valve, could it have just dumped due to over fill? Could the compressor be okay? Compressor still cuts on with switch but hot air due to system purging itself. Cod it be that all i need is that safety valve and a flush and recharge with a conversion to r134? Any help is appreciated as the shops want me to pay for a diag before even answering the question if that could be it. ANYONE ever hear of this? The valve is shown on courtesy nissan website but has no list of the actual part when I click on the part number. Wonder if this is a safety valve to vent if over charged to keep from smoking the compressor.

RT I would try that first. If the comp is kicking on and off then I would think that it is still OK. Try it and see what happens. The worst thing is you have to replace what you where going to replace in the first place.

That safety valve is a high pressure relief valve. Was the work done by a shop? How recent was the refill? I'd take it back. The pressures required to pop the valve are pretty high. This indicates there's still something wrong. Yes, an overcharge could have done this but you could have some blockage in the system as well.

Why was it recharged in the first place? Was it just a bit low? Did they evacuate the entire system, then refill with Freeze 12. Did you have a leak that was fixed?

If you choose to convert to R-134a, you should also change out the Accumulator/Drier

No a shop did not do it, was a friend who has done this for me in the past. it was just not real cold but worked fine. I think it was over charged, but upon more inspection the only place I see the green oil is on the back of the radiator on the bottom of the shroud. it is looking more like the condenser popped a hole and sprayed it through the radiator and onto the fan. There is no green oil on any line or on the compressor. I am hoping it is just the condenser cause that is much cheaper. The condenser and a expansion valve and dryer is what i am hoping I can get by on. I am taking to a shop for full inspection and hopefully that and a full vacuum pull and retro fit to r134 will get it back up for about half the cost of what a compressor would run. Fingers crossed as it is getting hot LOL
