Hey guys. My ac was running great last week. Blew cold, but sometimes lost its charged for a second but would blow cold again. So i realized that it was running out. This week my ac light does not even light up, and I have no AC. Clutch doesnt engage and etc. So I'm guessing i'm out of freon (correct me if i'm wrong please). I droped by pep boys, saw the r134 conversion kit. The box says just to get the r12 taken out the right way, then hook up the r134 and let it do its thing. I read numerous posts about needing new o rings to handle the pressure. What are your thoughts on that system? WOrth it to do what the box says? Or is it incorrect. As well, Do I have a leak? its a 90 nissan? I'm not sure how the ac system really works. Does the freon eventually run out or is it because there is a leak? Thanks ahead of time.

your a/c charge looses pressure. it happens over time, and usually not because of leaks. you should probably get a r134a adaptor because the last time i checked r12 was 5 times the money per pound.

Freeze 12 my friend, works in R12 systems and requires no conversion. $9 a can at Big A. It says to vaccume out the old R12, but I've never done that to any of my cars (all of them are running Freeze 12) and they've never had a problem.
