welll.. let me try to make this simple. As long as im driving. car blows cool. Minute u stop moments laters , is not as cool. TO the point, it starts warming up.
While in idle, u can here compressor or something,(NotSure) clickin on and off.. Kinda messs with the rpm when it does it too. And it does it too often. Ways tooo often. On for about 10secs, then off. for about 1 minutes, then on. then off. Now ive never seen ac cut on and off like that as frequent. I looked on the small fan in front. I see it on. so i dont know wat the problem is. It has freon. So.. Idk.. before i head to mech next week. Anyone ever experience this?

the noise you hear clicking on/off at idle could be the condensor fan starting and stopping {normal} which does cause the idle to dip as the alternator is forced to produce more amps to run the fan motor.

When my factory original compressor was 12 years/ aprox 180-190,000 miles old it began to show symptoms like yours- it cooled great while car was on highway, but when stopped at traffic lights or just parked the vent temps warmed up- the compressor was becoming weak and tired- replaced compressor and dryer after double, triple checking that it was not due to an airflow issue{clogged condensor/bad condensor fan/bad fan clutch/dirty evaporator/etc} and the new compressor totally solved the problem.......cold air at idle and at highway speeds!!!! not a cheap fix, as I believe it was a little over $1000 using a genuine factory brand new compressor and dryer and labor. You can purchase a rebuilt compressor and generic dryer and cut costs by almost 1/2 if you feel comfortable taking a gamble on the quality of parts.....a decision only you can make.

If you have "done the compressor twice" , what happened to the new one you just put in in 2008? Why did it die already? Why did the one you put in THIS YEAR already develop problems???? Either you are using old used junkyard compressors , cheap rebuilds, or the system is clogged with debris "metal shavings" from the blown compressor{s} and not being flushed properly causing your replacement compressors to fail extremely early.......why A/C work is best left to a true professional {a/c trained specialist}, so many owners and gas station type "mechanics" tinker with system and create even bigger hard to diagnose problems down the road from not following procedures and taking shortcuts.

Get the car into the hands of a A/C specialist shop for total system checkup and analysis........plan on spending quite a bit to correct for past shortcuts.....most likely they will recommend replacing condensor/evaporator/dryer/ and probably yet again the compressor AFTER THEY COMPLETELY FLUSH out all wear causing debris from lines, etc- best guess......$ 1500-2000 to repair in a fashion that will allow multiple years of reliable operation. Afterall the original factory installed compressors last 10-12 years and 200,000 miles.........

I'd say the noise your hearing is the compressor clutch cycling. That's why its affecting your rpm's, more than likely your low of freon.

cant be.. low on freon. I checked it. I have a lil gage i keep to insert 1 can or more in the car. Bought this back when i had that crappy compressor. Also as far as the replacement goes, in 2008, the compressor just went out. It was original. So it was replaced. Forgot what else they did. But it was 1100$ job.
It was rebuilt. I wont lie... but it had a warranty. either this year or last year, we kept seeing a leak. And come to find out it was coming from the compressor seal. So warranty covered it, and got another rebuilt . Now you telling me its failing again.. DANG!!

$1100 is pretty cheap to rebuild the entire AC system, as the parts alone cost $2300 [for oem] and it takes a full day to replace evaporator, hoses, condenser, dryer, and compressor recharge and reoil.

Half posterior or slinky parts just means you get to do it over and over and over.

Gererally things only last 7-10 years at best.

After 20.5 years I'm on compressor #3

My a/c does the same thing. I'm quite sure my compress is on its last leg. It blows great while running but at idle in 95 degree temp, it's not great. I won't worry about it until it fully dies.

Side note...what part of Houston do you reside? I'll be there this weekend. My girl lives in the Energy Corridor. Nice area...I plan on making that hike in the next couple of years there.

Just tested my AC [0.7kg of R12] instead of the 1.1 kg I put in 2 years ago when compressor was replaced, so 35% of R12 has leaked out in 24 months.

Dye showed no leaks and evap tested ok so probably an oring [intermitent] or hose permability?

Always good to weight R-xx or R-xxxa at least every 2 years that way you are not driving low which causes excess wear in compressor.

That seems to be a good size leak? shocked you cant find it????? Maybe a weigh and top off annually is warranted in your case???

Actually R12 system were almost designed to leak [in the pre flurocarbon hatred world]. Just a fact of life back in 1960,70's, 80's.

As I pointed out awhile ago the oem evap is still as build in 1989 although it has been removed once [2002] for cleaning of dirt, slime , and Legionaires bacteria.

At this flow rate I still have enough R12 to last 20+ years...........only cost $25 per pound.
