Hello all. New here. Meoff Jack here in San Antonio and I have a question about my AC.

Ac works but only in fan settings 1,2,and 3. once I put in to 4 it cuts out.

When I put it in 3 (i never use 1,2) it will sometimes kick on but sometimes it wont at all, then it will but it turns off and back on a couple minutes later.

It almost always stops when my car comes to a stop. Once i get going it turns back on.

Its the freakin summer and my car is miserable enough as it is cuz its interior is stripped and solid motor mounts......and I live in Texas

Any advice is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED cuz this sucks.

That's a new one for me! Does the blower motor not work on 4 or does the A/C compressor just turn off? You can try jumping the pressure switch and see if that makes it at least work and blow cold, but if it's not blowing nice and cold, then immediately remove the jumper. If this is the case, maybe you need a recharge. If you do jump the pressure switch and it still only runs intermediately, then maybe the harness to the compressor is failing (check the connection and wire condition) or maybe something under the dash is not working right.

The blower motor works on 1,2,3,and 4. The AC turns off on 4.

Ok cool ill try that. I just recharged it and its the most it is recommended to have.

Excellent! I will try that

Thank you 2 L Turbo!

1 pull your ac control panel out. The plug on the left (when sitting in the driver seat facing the actual face of the panel) (SO ON THE RIGHT WHEN YOU TURN IT AROUND) unplug it and check the pin closest to the driver side of the plug. Look for corrosion or the actual clip melting. Mine did this I would have to put it in between 3 and 4 for the fan to work. I replaced the clip and the control panel and 4 works again.

Next AFTER YOU INSPECT THE PLUG AND SWAP THE CONTROL PANEL
check your thermo control amplifier (this is located behind the glove box. Once you remove the glove box you will see a black square rely looking box with a small 3 wire harness feeding from the top of the dash past this box and plugs into the bottom. If you havent replaced your control panel its fine but you still wont have 4.

The box is roughly 2"x2" maybe a little smaller you cant miss it. There is another set of 2 wire coming from the amplifier that look like there fed into the evaporator housing and pinched between the two halfs of the housing. Turn your ac onto 3 (or 4 if you replaced your control panel like you should of) and disconnect the amplifier. Take a short piece of wire and jump the two OUTSIDE OUTSIDE OUTSIDE pins of the connector that plugs into the bottom of the amplifier. THIS IS FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY DO NOT I REPEAT DOOOOO NOOOOT LEAVE THEM JUMPED FOR MORE THEN A FEW MINS THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX. your ac should then kick on

If it does your thermo control amplifier is going bad. Most of the time you can get away with wiggling the connector around in the socket to find the sweet spot (like how you do with an old cell phone charger that you have to put the cord a certain direction for it to charge) then zip tie around the amplifier and connector to hold it there. This should work for a while but plan on getting a new one.

ok waxdnuggs......I swapped the temp control unit and it still doesnt blow on 4 (it does for like 8 seconds then shuts off).....and hardly on 3 either now. But im thinking its that little black box behind the glove box. I tried to take it off but it is connected to a wire that leads to a big black box and it seems really difficult to take off or that I would mess something up. Should I just cut the wires and splice the new one back on or just take it all apart?

Thanks nuggz

Test it first just unplug the little black box and test that harness. The black box has nothing to do with the blower settings. Just the compressor kicking on and off. Replace the relays for the blower motor. If it works on any setting then you know its not the motor itself. When you go to replace it yes you can just cut it if you wanted to but it is possible to open the evap housing "the big black box"

Jump the circut like I said and see what happens well figure this out dont worry. Haha. Its most likely a sensor and luckly non of them are really THAT bad to replace. Hopefully you just dont have a short somewhere because those suck to find. But hope for the best. If it only blows on 4 for a few seconds that sounds like a relay so trace them down and replace them. There cheap and yours are old so it wont hurt doing that anyways. Next like the guy up there ^^^ said try jumping the pressure sensor. Is it possible you overfilled the freon? Does your ac ever get cold and then just shut off?

ok i swapped out the thermo control amp and the climate control unit. im going to replace the relays soon as i get the chance. Replacing those and the...im not sure what its called...its white plated and its to the right of the thero amp. Now ac is working on 4 pretty well except when my car comes to a stop and the compressor cuts off but as soon as i start moving it starts back up. lol i dont care toooo much about that though im happy with the results......

hmm ill have to try that pressure sensor, maybe i did over fill a little

Does the ac shut of instantly when you come to a stop or after you idle of a min or so. If thats the case check and make sure your electric fan for the ac condenser turns on. Your condenser might be heating up too much.

I had purchased a 92 coupe a couple months ago and thats where I got it from. I also used its climate control unit, that really helped too. its been nice pullin all the parts from it. hmm......sheesh. I would look at craigslist (240sx parts or shell and just ask the guy if you can buy the part), import junkyard, and maybe the dealership. I hate finding these little parts.
