Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

does anyone know what it actually does? Ive plugged my AC all in, but im wondering how the RB raises it idle to compensate.

is that what the ecu pin is for? or is that just to turn the fans on.

thanks

(was under damicci's name)

i was asking what the pin on the ecu is for. i know where it is. but im wondering if that is what raises the idle to compensate when the AC is on.

i basically need to know how to get my engine to raise the idle when the AC goes on

thanks though

Yeah, there are TWO pins on the ECU for A/C. One is the input from the thermo control amp, and the other is the output which grounds the A/C relay to energize the clutch. So which one are you talking about?

From what you are saying, I'm guessing you bypassed the ECU altogether, and now you need a way to make the engine idle-up when A/C kicks on.

If you have an RB25, you are in luck, as there appears to be an FICD solenoid valve on the wiring diagrams I have seen (just like the KA). The FICD opens whenever the A/C clutch is engaged, letting a bit of air bypass the throttle plate. You can just wire the FICD to the A/C relay so that it will open when the A/C comes on.

If you have an RB20, there is no FICD, so I assume the AAC must compensate via ECU control. In that case, the ECU really needs to know that the A/C is coming on.

Btw, since the RB25 has an FICD, the ECU does not perform the idle-up function. So merely running a signal wire to the ECU in that case will probably not help your idle.

the ficd solenoid (fast idle) is pin 36 on the ecu...

Yes, but since his ECU does not know about the A/C, he will have to power the FICD from the A/C relay.

sounds good.

so basically, if i understand, i can just run the ACs hot wire to the FICD also. this will then take care of the idle with the AC on.

now i just need to find the FICD....

;)

Yes, and this is exactly how the KA does it.
