Feeding off of Jberger's post about HVAC. What regular maintenance should I be performing on my system to ensure longevity?

Depends on how long you have done nothing starting to do things at 8,9,10 years can't be called maintenance!

You vacuum down the charge, flush the individual components, replace the receiver dryer, change all the o rings, and recharge adding the appropriate amount of new oil.

And pray that the lack of maintenance has eaten a hole in the evaporator or worn the seals in the compressor.

Oh, yes you remove the evaporator get the bent fins straightened [special tool] and all the lodged debris out.

In theory the oem AC should last 10 years but some will fail earlier.

It would have been a lot better to have the AC cleaning done at 5-6 years.

Denis, yes my car is 8-9 years old. I have only done "nothing" to the AC for about a year, that is how long I've owned it. So what! Anything I do to it is maintenance to me. Anything!! As I said last time, I did not buy my Q new. I was a punk teenager in 93-94 and didn't have a spare 40K to spend.

Anyway, thanks for your informative response but spare the moot "8,9,10 years" sermon next time please. I take very good care of my Q thanks to you guys on this forum.:D
