I know for R12 systems you need to use a mineral oil. Will universal oil work as well?

Also, do I need to add oil directly to the compressor before installing it or do I just add it through the low-pressure service port?

Thanks!

Hey Jesda, I don't know anything about your question. But I just had my ac serviced subsequent to a blown rubber hose on the high pressure side. while you're servicing your compressor you may consider replacing you hoses as well.

In the service manual it tells you how to add oil, and what type you need. R12 is different from R134..... Thers a flowchart that tells you exactly the amount youll need and how to figure said amount.

The universal oil is supposed to be compatible with both PAG and mineral. I haven't heard anything bad, but i haven't looked into it either. My AC manual presents it as an option and doesn't mention any downsides. Add it to the service port.

DON'T MIX oils make sure you dissassemble and flush out all components and add a new dryer..............chemical reactions occur between old and new types..........compressor seals fail this way.
