Hi All
I'm trying to get my AC working, I've rebuilt the compressor with a new seal ($25 instead of $300) and I've got everything installed except one line.
The line from the firewall to the receiver/dryer can by the rad was damaged during the resto, bent beyond recognition and kinked and split in a couple of places. I've looked through the junk yard but can't find a replacement so I've cut off the two ends and I'll weld new line in between. I've got some special zinc welding rods that allow joining of copper tubing to aluminum tubing. I've already done a practice weld and it works great, the welding shop guy tells me the industrial refrigeration guys do this all the time.
What I don't have is the routing of the line, I tried to unbend the old line to figure it out and couldn't, it didn't make sense, so I went online and looked at hundreds of pictures of 240 engine bays but the line is down so deep in the engine bay that you don't really see it unless you are aiming for it.
SO...
I'm asking, requesting and pleading with the community to post up pictures of the AC lines in your car, specifically the line that runs from the firewall on the passenger side - down the frame rail and then into the receiver/dryer can, I want to make the new line I fabricate to be as close to stock as possible. If you already have a pic that's great. If you have AC in your car could you please go out today and snap a few pics of the line for me? I'll probably not be the last person who needs this so the thread can serve others in the future as well. I'll post pics of the process so that others can see how the welding process works to repair the lines and the final product.
Thanks
