Well you might have a low charge that would cause the low pressure switch to kill the system. I would start by having the system recovered(see how much R12 comes out), evacuated and recharged. While doing the recharge inject an AC dye to further assist if a leak is suspected. After the recharge start the AC system and see if it is blowing cold air. A good running AC system will put out between 30-40 degrees F at the ducts on a normal day. If the system comes alive and stays alive drive it for a few days then recheck for leaks in the system using a UV light that can detect the dye. Check the evaporator drain tube for signs of dye which would indicate a leaking evaporator. That's a lot of info I know so start with the basics, recover, evacuate and recharge then go from there.
