See this thread. I haven't taken pics to update but about a year later I upgraded the ground wire to a larger gauge and it's (fingers crossed) been fine for years since.
I was reading up on this, just wanna make sure I fully understand this, you swapped male connectors, then unplugged oem ground, added YOUR OWN wire, and then you grounded YOUR wire to the seat frame or you connected YOUR wire to the oem ground wire?mrnix wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2026 1:49 pmSee this thread. You can actually do either one, but your best bet is to ground directly to the seat frame. The reason is, the main seat connector has similar pins (not identical, but close) to the control unit connector. If the cause of the burned terminal at the controller wasn't a hot FET inside the controller (i.e, instead a slow fan, blocked duct, or Peltier running hot), you'll just shift the ground load to the main seat connector and burn that up too.
I'll see if I can find a new male connector bc the one minx linked in the other post is sold out and then I'll try doing a new ground.VStar650CL wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2026 12:35 pmYou can actually do either one, but your best bet is to ground directly to the seat frame. Thank you, in that case I'll compare the control boxs between the two seats I have (i kept my old seat that the dealership replaced and mounted it to a home made stand) and if my old one looks better I'll use that one.VStar650CL wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2026 5:33 amI can't imagine any circumstance where you'd need to replace the whole seat. All that stuff is available as piece parts, even the ducts. The Peltiers are actually pretty hard to hurt. It's almost always a hot FET in the control box that blows things up, and that will usually self-destruct before the Peltier substrates can reach critical mass. Once the controller is repaired or replaced, you just need to clean the system thoroughly and make sure everything in the ventilation is open and unblocked.
