Saturday I pulled into my garage and smelled a funny gas smell, didn't think much of it and cut the car off and ran in the house. Came back outside 20 min later cut the ac on, I could here the ticking noise of the ac cutting on but the fan that goes 1-4 wasn't blowing at all. I rolled down the windows and got on the highway then suddenly I heard and felt the air blowing. After this while I had the car on it was fine. I stopped at a atm go back in the car fan doesn't work. So yesterday I took it to my friend at Infiniti he checked my freon level, filled it up did the leak test and all. We cut the car on and the fan still didn't cut on. I leave the shop get on the highway get to about 55 and the air starts blowing. He says it might be the resistor. Any ideas? Not trying to buy the resistor and that not be the problem as I'll be stuck with it, even if that's not the case

Fan motors in HVAC system have a useful working life of ~ 10 years DEPENDING on the number of hours of use IN TOTAL.The brushes and the commutators wear out and get dirty.Usual proceedure is to replace fan motor BEFORE its slow worn out speed takes out the expensive speed control circuitry.

Same problem with electric radiator and ac condenser fans...........how many hours of use in what climate zone.

Remember the fuel pump is an electric motor that suffers the same wear out fate.

An engineer or trained expert technican would measure the fan motor currents annually and graph to see the slow annual speed decline as current increases to make a better educated guess as to an appropriate replacement BEFORE TOTAL FAILURE!

So it was low on R134a but no attempt to determine and repair the cause was made?
