After installing a remanufactured compressor in the 95 Q it still only blew warm air. The pressure gauges indicated the compressor was not functioning, BUT this is the 3rd compressor on the car with exactly the same symptoms - the original, a used replacement and now the remannned unit. The AC guy said now that it must be the expansion valve needle is broken or stuck open (BTW, we did put in a new receiver/drier).

I'm having trouble finding an expansion valve up here, but saw on an AC parts website that the valve is the same as the one on the 96 Pathfinder/QX4. I CAN get one of those here at NAPA (I think) for a reasonable price (instead of $100 at my dealer or $70-75 from Joe with shipping). Can anybody confirm that they are indeed the same or, at least, interchangeable parts?

Thanks,Glenn

Actually the part number: 92200-67U03- is for the 1995-1996 Q45, there is nothing that says it will fit from a QX4.

But the price went down on Joe's site: 57.59 less shipping.

Considering the labor to get to the expansion valve and the costs of a proper evac and recharge{and you will need to replace the drier AGAIN since you will be opening up the system to replace the exp. valve}......is it worth even RISKING using an incorrect expansion valve when Joe can ship the correct one for a reasonable price????????

Hopefully you had entire system flushed when original compressor failed??? Condenser & evaporator commonly get clogged from debris from failed old compressor{and many professionals say you should replace the condenser as this type of condenser is almost impossible to effectively flush free of debris}this could be part of why you are experiencing poor cooling efficiency.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately we pay a premium for most things up here in Canada. Joe's price is good for you, but after the shipping and exchange rate for our dollar it'll still be $75 for me (I have stuff shipped to WA to save $ & aggravation). If the 96 Pathfinder/QX4 is the same I can get that at NAPA here for $35.

This is the piece of s*** Q I bought from moderator Rex. I've changed the transmission, steering rack, differential, much of the front steering/suspension, an injector and all injector o-rings, knock sensors, radiator, engine fan blade, belts and now the AC compressor. The interior is still permanently stained and the paint is still peppered with rock chips. I can't justify paying double the price for parts anymore for a car that is basically worthless and will be thrown away in 2 years unless I have to. I'll take apart as much as I can in the driveway to get to the expansion valve to save on paid shop time, maybe I can even change the valve myself. The system is empty after all.

The original compressor started making some intermittent light knocking. At that point damage is already done to the system, but it still blew cold. When the cold air stopped I noticed the knocking had also stopped. The compressor clutch still engaged, so I figured the thing finally broke. I bought a used compressor and a new receiver drier. The system was evacuated, vacuumed for a half hour and recharged. When the replacement compressor didn't make cold air the system was evacuated again. When I got the remanned unit installed the system was vacuumed again for a half hour and re-oiled and recharged. Now that's been evacuated again. I think the system should be clean.

Evacuating DOES NOT clean the system, it just empties it!!!!

When compressor fails it spews its guts as small particles of metal/rubber seals etc throughout the entire system and these particles get trapped in condenser, evaporator and expansion valve - very difficult to remove completely even with dedicated FLUSH CHEMICALS introduced into each component after system is taken apart to isolate and clean each component

-Without performing this flushing of components it is near impossible to have efficiently operating ac system and the abrasive particles work their way through system slowly to any new compressor you install and cause extreme wear and early death of the compressor.
