Has anyone done a write up of using Einszett Klima-Cleaner to foam clean the AC Evaporator?
I just bought a used 2008 Rogue S AWD and it has typical mold odor from the AC.
I have confirmed that the drain tube is open and draining, I'm just guessing that the evaporator has never been cleaned.
I am assuming that I can just disconnect the drain tube in the cabin at the passenger foot area, spray the Einszett Klima-Cleaner in there, reconnect the drain tube and then let it drain for 20 min, as prescribed by Einszett. I'm assuming I should remove the cabin air filter and put the cabin air filter door back in place while the cleaning is going on.
Is there any better way to get to the evaporator so as to introduce the Einszett Klima-Cleaner from the top of the evaporator chamber?
Thanks!
Al

if you want to kill that, you will need a way to spray that small radiator inside the dashboard with germ killing solution.
you can use bleach & water and gently mist inside the area where your filter sits. mold HATES high heat. ever thought of running the heat to kill it off? the radiator fluid gets pretty darn hot. i burned the CRAP out of myself touching that darn condenser once lolol

Thanks. That's exactly what I'm talking about. The product I mentioned above - Einszett Klima-Cleaner - is a foaming cleaner for the AC evaporator. In the vehicles that I've had in the past you introduce it through the blower fan. I can't find an easy way to get to the blower fan in the Rogue, so I thought I would spray it in from the drain tube. Other folks sometimes spray it in through the central heater/AC vents in the dash, but I'm not sure that this would work well in the Rogue. I was thinking of also spraying it in through the cabin filter access (with the filter out) but I think that would cause foam to go all over the driver side floor. If anyone has any more info or a writeup of foam cleaning the evaporator, I'd appreciate it. If not, I'll try it at the evaporator drain and see how it goes. If it goes well, I'll write it up.
Thanks!

I just spoke with Einszett USA support and they said that the Einszett Klima-Cleaner can be introduced through the drain tube for the evaporator, as long as the can is still in an upright position. Since it is an expanding foam product it should fill the cavity. They did say that the cabin air filter needs to be removed and the cabin air filter access panel put back in place for the procedure.
Since there have been no write-ups of this procedure, I'll do one when I get a chance. I've used the Einszett Klima-Cleaner in other vehicles and it has cleaned and disinfected the evaporator, eliminating the mold odor.

I don't know about treatment, but I found d that a good way to prevent it is to turn off the AC she your close to your destination action to let everything war, up and stop condensation. Maybe even run the heater for a little bit.
This was a huge problem on the Mark 4 VW Jettas. Not just the condensor, but in the ducting as well.

OK. Here it is - Foam cleaning of the AC evaporator. If you have a funky odor coming from your vent system, chances are you have mold growing in the evaporator. There are several steps to cleaning it and the odor out. First, remove the cabin air filter which you have probably never changed - yuck. On the driver's side center console, open the cabin air filter access panel and remove the cabin air filter - Like this: cabin-air-filter-t321326.html
While the filter is out, use a vacuum to get as much debris as possible out of the cabin air filter slot.
Then close up the filter access panel without putting a new filter in.
Then on the passenger side center console, remove the trim panel and locate the AC drain tube
Image
Pull the tube off of the drain and then feed the spray tube from a can of Kool-It Evaporator and Heater Foam Cleaner as far into the evaporator housing as you can
Image
Shake the can and then spray the entire contents into the evaporator while keeping the can upright. You should probably hold your thumb over the drain hole so that the foam doesn't come out all over your carpet.
When the can is empty, replace the drain tube. Wait 20 minutes for the foaming cleaner to clean and condense and drip out of the drain hole. - Oh, you probably want to put a container under the car where the drain hose is to catch the fluid as it drains.

After 20 min, Install a new cabin air filter, turn on the car and run the blower for 5 minutes with fresh air, with the AC off.

If you still have some funky smells, you may need to disinfect the vents. To do this, you can simply spray Lysol into the vent under the hood near the windshield. You can also put the vents on recirculate and spray the Lysol into the vents at the driver's and passenger's foot area.

Here's a link to Kool-It:

You can also use Einszett Klima Cleaner Professional:

But Kool-It is cheaper and often able to be found locally. I bought it at O'Reilley's Auto

Thanks!
Mold smell is gone! The Kool-It has a slight chemical odor that went away pretty quickly. The Lysol, however, smells like whatever scent they put in it. I tried to find unscented, but I guess they don't make it anymore. I smelled them all in the store and the least offensive one, to me, is "Crisp Linen". So now my car smells like "Crisp Linen" whatever that is.
