Unfortunately in US members are allowed to abuse and publically degrade cars as they wish.......................only a few states have any type of inspections and none of those cover esthetics or HVAC.

Touche guys, Nice tag teaming...

The car went from having no AC with a bad compressor, sweat running down my back by the time I get to work - to a more environmentally safe refrigerant (I could have opted for R12), fresh oil, new belts and cooling nice. While on the ramps, I changed the engine and power-steering oils. Yeah, that's abuse alright. She's purring like a kitten.

I seem to have one of the nicest 1st Gen G50 (Jan, 1990 production date) around. It drives tight, fast and is a very reliable daily driver. Wonder how it stays that way? Tell that to someone who deserves it cause I sure don't.

As I said somewhere we use about 150 pounds of R12 per year and roughly the same amount of R134a..................we could probably sell all we chose to buy.

Doesn't matter to us which the systems use they get treated the same......only the customer determine satisfaaction.................88F was the high today in ATL.

Thank goodness for global warming or just a warm spring.

I'm a very warm guy (possibly due to the excess insulation), so I'm really, really picky about AC. Some days I'll drive the GMC Vandura just because its cooling abilities are so robust. No one makes air conditioning like GM. Detroit knows best about how to cool fat Americans.

However, some of us cool off more easily, so if it works, then it works! Enjoy the ride, Drew.

From what I hear, not every car reacts the same given the same treatment. Did you flush yours?

I guess I was lucky. At 235 lbs I'm no lightweight and stay warm just like you. I own a Dodge truck with ice-cold R12. Had it about five years now and have never serviced the AC. Last summer I drove it and parked the Q most times. The Q's seats are non-porus leather and after a short time in heavy traffic,, my back would look like I leaned against a waterfall.

It's not only GM.... Americans do the best AC overall. They made sure of that, else our pampered society wouldn't buy a single domestic!

Just an update.... It's been over three months since my conversion and temps are in the 90's on the regular here in ATL. My car can sit all day in the hot sun with windows fully rolled up and cool off very quickly. I am very satisfied with my conversion and to know that I'll never have to deal with the expense and hassle of obtaining R12 again.

Conversion is no myth. I have since come across 3 Q's with AC converted during my junkyard jaunts.
