My 1996 Q45 recently had a Reman AC compressor installed, the was 8 months ago when weather here in SF was cold so AC air was cold. Now noticing no cold air from AC just outside warmish air.
That service last June was $1600.00.
I know Reman Compressor often fail, but could this be a recharging is needed. My Tech will charge $275.00 just to the unit he installed.

I'd certainly get it leak-checked before assuming the new compressor is shot. Could just be something dumb like an old o-ring giving up the ghost.

I’ve had my compressor done few years ago aftermarket. First thing first is to recharge and see what highs and lows are doing. Sometimes overfilling can lead to a dryer that rips internally, clogging the expansion valve with desiccant pellets. But that’s not generally the go to solution.

In my case, after losing charges a few times…I traced mine to a tiny crack in a leaking H pressure hose just above the compressor. I can’t find it in stock even thru Infiniti, but I’ve been using silicone tape and gasket sealants to slow it down. The tape is working the best lol. But in your case. most likely a dye leak finder is in order.

Personally when it comes to a/c, I learned how to just do the half the work myself. I’ll fix the issue, but have them Evacuate/vacuum. I can do the recharge myself even. However since you already paid less than a year ago, let them figure it out for now and warranty it. I’ll even say, “if it’s anything else besides the compressor, I’ll only pay for the labor, not the part” $1,600 is a lot for a aftermarket compressor job.

You can always do the "quick and dirty" pressure test. Take the cap off of the low side, press the pin of the schrader valve down for a second with a small screw driver. If there's no hiss, there's no refrigerant. At least if it's empty, you know it's a leak. I agree with 98_Q45 that adding dye is a good idea. A decent UV flashlight in a dark garage (or at night) can really help find a leak with dye in the system.

Here's an example on my truck. Notice the trail of bright green stuff just below the hose attachment to the compressor.
