hey guys, sorry i havnt been around in the last month or so. its been pretty hectic around my house as of late. i had to go to england for my aunt's funaral and stuff.... anyway im back and will be whoring up the boards on a regular basis now.

on to questions, i was wondering if anyone has had their CA air conditioning compressor converted to use the r134 refrigerant. im sweating to death in my black/black car in this alabama heat and ive had about enough. i was just curious if it was possible to get it rebuilt.

thats about it, the car is running like crap as usual. my aacv or whatever it is is shot, so the car wont budge until its completely warmed up (which takes all of 30 seconds since its like 97 degrees ambient temp). when i put my foot down i create a james bond like smoke screen that blinds drivers behind me, which is fun and bad at the same time. you know, the usual. anyway, hope all has been well and whatnot.

shouldn't need a special rebuild for the compressor normally.. but you'll want to change out the pressure switch for the compressor cut-out to one for r134 (otherwise it won't operate in the optimum pressure range for r134) and get the lines modified for the r134 connections for filling/etc.. maybe replace some o rings on the lines while you're at it, and if possible put on a nice new condensor (not stock-like big tube and fine, but a more modern style one thats much more effecitient)

I haven't done mine yet, I've got a condenser to put on and a pressure switch for r134, but I haven't gotten lines for everything made up, much less mounted the condensor yet.. (it'll need custom mounting, its generic)

Hey wow i didnt know there was people on here with this much knowledge. Not to say that the people here are not smart, thats not what i meant. You know a lot about the a/c system. Have you gone to school? Im learning about a/c and heating in summer school right now. It makes so much sense once you learn about its physics and the way you can manipulate it to our advantage.

yeah, i figured it wasnt all that much work. still i might just take it to the guy who works on our volvo, as he seems to be a god of anything A/C related. good to know im not the only one going to great lengths to have cold air in the car!

What seems to be the poblem with you A/C system?

Compressor working?

Compressor belt ok condition/ tension?

Is your condenser in working condition?

Any system leaks?

Any leaks at connections?

Is you accumulator or reciever-drier blocked or needs replacing?

Do you need to charge the correct amount of refrigerant and oil into the system?

Are there any leaks at the evaporator?

Is the Fan Blowing in all the levels?

Have you check your Orifice Tube or Thermal Expansion valve for any signs of damage or inopperative?

Is the sensing unit not sending right temp reading to valve?

Alright who else can think of something else?

the problem with my A/C system is that it has been completely removed from the car. ive got all the parts but i dont really want to spend half a million dollars to get it filled with r12. im just going to get the lines redone and the seals and stuff converted to be r134 compliant. it worked when it was in my front clip...
