Hey guys here is th deal. I was driving home and about two blocks away from my house I hear this very loud whineing sound, kinda of like when your belts are loose. So I thought nothing of it, Id figure I would just tighten them when I get home it was just two blocks, but about a block away I see smoke coming from underneath my hood. So I get home I pop my hood, and I see smoke coming from the AC Compresor, right around the pully area.

So I went into the car switched on the AC, and nothing happens. So right now at this point im figureing that my AC compresor burned up for some reason.

My question is, has this happend to any one, and also should I just take off the belt running that compressor or is there more to it. Cause when I look at it I see a pully thing underneath but Im figuring it's just a tightnening pully for the AC.

Also the car felt a lot more perky as soon as that happend heh.

BTW it is a 1990 with a KA24E

I could send you a new compressor but it would prob. be a lot to ship.

You probably won't need A/C for a while though, so yeah take the belt off. I took out all my A/C components (and P/S) and my carrevs a lot quicker than it did before, and it freed up a little power.

Seeing as how he's up north and it's in the middle of winter, I'm pretty sure he'll be missing his a/c rather badly. I had to drive my civic last winter with no a/c. NOT FUN.

Unfortunately it sounds like the compressor seized up causing the belt to squeal and smoke. The fact that nothing happens when you turn on the a/c seems odd, though. Does the a/c light come on? When you look at the compressor with the engine running and a/c off, is the entire hub spinning or only the pulley? How about with the a/c on?

Yah I tested everything today and the AC light turns on and everything even the RPMS go up heh. I have taken off the AC belt since then. The car seems a lot happier now. Plus it's cold here now anyways and my heating works perfectly. Plus Im getting my SR done in Jan. So it's not a big deal. thx

I guess it's up to you. I wouldn't dare drive a car in the winter without being able to defog anything, but I suppose if it's only until January then it's not all that bad...

Why would you need A/c in the middle of winter???

For defogging. You can't defog without a/c. Heat is useless.
