Hello!

I enjoying my 2010 Rogue (still have less than 5,000 miles- bought it July)- now that is getting colder I noticed that the AC light comes on when I switch the dial from "defog window and feet" to "head and feet" by itself.
the air is still warm when it comes out.
but why does it come on? Its like 40 outside, I want heat not AC---

When you use the defrost mode, the car is automatically using the AC to remove the moisture from the car, but doesn't turn it off when you select something else.
That is why when you move out from the defrost mode, the AC light is on to tell you... that the AC is ON, and that now, you can turn it off if you want.

All of my other cars didn't make me turn it off--

Makes sense what you are saying, but I just want it to turn off by itself!

Pescakl is correct, and I agree DC_Rogue it is a little strange to me too.

In Defrost mode the AC is always on but the AC indicator light doesn't turn on, presumable because you have no choice to deactivate it so they don't even let you know it's actually on. But then you turn it to feet or panel and the light comes on because you now have the choice to turn it off.

I wish it would just turn off on it's own too, I really don't see a significant benefit having the AC compressor running all the time, it's just one more electric load that I don't need but apparantly this is the new standard in modern vehicles.

But the bottom line is, your car is operating as designed and there is no issue.

At least you have the option of turning it off. In my 03 Spec-v if you switch away from defrost mode the AC compressor stays running until the car is turned off

I'm not happy about this!

O-well. I might just give up and let the AC compressor be on rather than fight with it. Maybe there is some great benefit to having this run all the time that I am not aware of. A side from putting strain on my engine, and reducing my gas mileage....

I think my other car does but I'm not entirely sure. It's really not that much effort to turn the compressor off if you want it off.

On the Honda we had, it is the same, but there was a trick to make it turned off in defrost mode if we wanted (hidden option by playing with the buttons).

Unfortunately, I never found such a trick for the Rogue.

The A/C system operation has been the norm on many Nissan's since 2002 and possibly earlier. Some domestic makes do the same. At least we have the option to override it.
