I have a 96 Q45 that the ac does not work. It is throwing an error 25 and the mixer door is broke (but obviously in the cool position). Can the sunload sensor (error 25) cause the compressor to not come on? I have recently had the compressor checked and the freon level recharged. Supposedly the compressor and freon levels are good. I'm trying to avoid a costly visit to the dealer, if anyone could help I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
-Mike

How can so many people have a 1996 Q45 that have a failed sun load sensor?

I thought the 1996 Q45 was rare...

I think a bad sunload sensor can cause the compressor not to come on. But thats just a guess based on my years of experience with the Q.

If "ATL" is Atlanta, try T-3 on Cobb.

Ditto on the T3 suggestion... members have drive multi-day drives to get there. Excellent shop. Hopefully Byron is still there at the South Cobb location?

Sunload sensors main job is to fine tune blower speed based off the amount of sunlight hitting it in an attempt to keep passengers comfortable.....more sun? driver must be feeling the suns rays hitting their body, let me turn the fan speed up a notch. No sun? lets turn it down a notch.....fine tuning in an attempt to maximize comfort.

Sunload sensor is VERY EASY to mis-diagnose {especially for newish owners} as if there is not direct sun hitting the sensor while in test mode, you get a false trouble code. The sessor is nothing more than a typical photocell with no moving parts, and should outlast the rest of the vehicle....of course, as these cars are ancient now and have gone through 3-4-5-6+ owners, who knows what a previous owner has monkeyed with{ think pulling dash to install audio equipment and the like}. Take note that almost every "sunload sensor" post and problem has been from a relatively new owner who purchased a very old and used car.....I can not think of a single long term owner/member here having this issue-

This is most definitely true and makes us long time members think, "Hmmmmm...."

yeah i dont think the sunload sensor has the capability to make the AC compressor simply not kick on.. That has to do with the pressure switches and the clutch control.. IF you think about it, even if its 90°F and its dark out, the AC still works great......
