Hi Folks,Just finished repairing my powersteering line and replacing the pump that works fine. My ABS warn light came on this morning and is remaining on solid, not noticing any blinking. More worrying is that I am hearing a humming sound coming from the Actuator unit (or is the word activator), and I could feel a small vibration when I touch it. It even continues when I turn off the engine. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the humming. Has anyone experienced this, what could be happening? Is the unit controlled by a relay? I pray this is a simple fuse or relay fix.

folksI forgot to mention that it's a 94 Q45 also that I have a rough Idle. it's idling at around 500rpms. I had the same rough idle when the powrsteering was going bad. I will replace the relays as suggested by '96Qowner'. From the string he sent it's possible it could be the relays. How do I get that cover off the black plastic box? I was unsuccessfully trying to get that off this morning to look for relays Don't want to break anything.

My '94 did this once too. I tapped the brake master cylinder with a wrench fairly hard (FAIRLY hard, not beat on it) a few times and it went away. It never came back. You might want to try that. Of course, if it reoccurs, you may need to dig further into it.

The relays are on the other side of the engine bay - so your tapping must have traveled through the brake lines!

Louis, George makes a good point. You can typically tap on the black cover that you tried to remove and "unstick" the frozen relay that's powering your ABS actuator when it's not supposed to be powered.

I'm not sure about removing the cover - since the design is different on the 94+ actuator.

Good luck!

Q451990, you are right. It happened a few years back, and I musta misremembered it. Actually, I rapped on whatever was buzzing, which would naturally have been the relays.

It's free, and doesn't take long, so it's worth a try for 30bino09.

"Bump" is an online forum term - a way to move the thread back to the top of the list. I was asking one of the posters who had removed the cover to respond to you.

Heheh, but it served two purposes, I guess. It's ironic that in this day and age there are still glitches that can be fixed with a sound whack.

Glad it worked for ya. Now you know what to do if it happens again. If it keeps happening though, you may need parts replacement. Only happened once for me, so maybe I was just lucky. I hope you are too.

Good luck.

This happened to me yesterday, I smacked it with my hand and it stopped just like the other guys did. I will keep an eye on it. Oh yeah mine is a 95 Q45.

This is also hapening with my 2000 QX 4. The 4 X 4 light is on as well as the ABS light. Would it be on the same relay? What are your thoughts?Thank you
