Hi folks,

I bought a used 2001 Infiniti I30t a while back, and it had the ABS, SLIP, and the TCS lights were on on the dash. I replaced the computer module (bought it on eBay for 25 bucks), but the lights remain.

My mechanic has been helping me diagnose this, but his OCD reads "no codes." What do you think it could be???

Thanks in advance - I've been stumped...

Stuart

Probably a bad ABS wheel sensor. The code reader your mechanic has probably can't read ABS codes, which are different from the OBD-II ECU codes that most simple scan tools read. Take the car to an Infiniti dealer, they can connect it to the Nissan Consult-II computer that does a lot more than read OBD-II codes.

I actually did take it to the dealer recently. I had some water damage after getting caught in a freak storm, and it became an insurance claim. Infiniti said that the the computer module was bad (that's why I bought one on eBay).

I wasn't impressed with their service - they were dead wrong on a few things that they told me about with regards to the water damage. I didn't have it fixed there... What'cha think?

I'd say take it to a different dealer. Infiniti service is usually top notch. I've taken my I30 to four different dealers and never been dissatisfied. Out of curiosity what did they tell you that was incorrect?

Anyway, see if your mechanic has a tool that can scan ABS codes because when the ABS light comes on that's an indicator of an ABS fault code. The TCS and SLIP lights being on leads me to think it's a wheel sensor because the system depends on them to operate properly.

Hi Matt,

The water damage left the door ajar light on. They said that I needed a new door switch, and I didn't - it was a short that I was able to figure out. They also said I needed an alarm system module, which I didn't. And then they said that I needed a $1500 computer module for the instrument lights...

Hi Stuart,

I am new to this forum and just bought a used 2001 infiniti I30 two months ago (it has 85,000 km = 53,000 miles). Recently, all the ABS, SLIP and TCS lights on all the time and never go off. Did you find a solution to this problem with your car? Can I still drive with these lights on? Thanks for sharing your experience!!!

It can be caused by a bad sensor. ABS and TCS use the same sensors, so if one goes bad, it throws both systems out the window. "SLIP" shows when the system thinks it's seeing a wheel slipping, so if "SLIP" is on all the time, there's something wrong with the TCS or ABS systems. Have the car scanned for codes; a bad sensor should show up.

Thanks much!!! How can I have the car scanned? Do I have to go the Infiniti Dealer or can I do it at my garage? Besides, could you please explain more about scanning the car? Thanks!!!

Just go to autozone or a similar auto parts store and ask them to check for ECU codes. They'll plug in a scanner tool and any errors will report as codes; it's free, too. Then you can cross-reference those codes using the sticky thread at the top of this forum to find out what they mean.

Thanks, MinisterofDOOM!

I am in Montreal (QC, Canada). Does anybody know where I can have my Infiniti scanned as suggested? It seems there is no autozon in Montreal.

Thank you!

I brought the car to my mechanic. He told me that the ABS Left Rear sensor is bad. Do you know where I can get one? Is it complicated to replace it? Thanks much!!!!
