Hello, I have a 03' G35 coupe. When I purchased it, it came with some silly tires...some brand I have never seen in 225/40/18 all around (on factory 18x8's). I went to the tire store and had a pair of new rear tires installed (245/45's). I would have done the front at the same time, but they did not have the right size in stock. As soon as I left the shop, I could hear some weird clicking noises coming from somewhere in the front of the car....my guess ABS unit? When I made my first stop, the ABS would kick on as if I was on ice or something. This continued all the way home where I parked the car.

I inspected the lug nuts and all were tight. I could see no clearance issues or anything else obvious. When speaking with the "tire guy" he threw a half dozen theories at me...most of them I had already came up with. The strongest one was that there was too much differential between the aspect of the front and rear tires causing the ABS system to freak out. But even that theory feels like somewhat of a stretch...especially since I have found no one else having the same issue when I did a search. So I hope someone else has an idea...or had a similar problem that they were able to remedy!

Tires really should not affect the ABS system, especially if they are the same on each side to side, shouldn't matter on front to rear.

Weird they had all the same tires on front and rear. Wheels and tires should be staggered on a coupe.

1. You would think. But the bottom line is the car was fine before putting the tires on, and was fubar right after. And I mean the very second I drove out of the parking lot.

2. True, but have you ever been to any tire store where the people working there actually knew anything about tires other than how to put them on? Also, tire stores are there to make money. Whatever they have in stock the day they show up is what they want to sell you. IME, they will tell you any size is "close enough" if that is all they have at the time.

So they likely just put the goofy 224/40's all around on the car for the PO chick because that was what they had on the rack, and she never thought twice about it.

Did you try disabling the VSC system? You could also remove the fuse for the ABS until you have the correct tires on the car...

That's probably what I would have done if there were to be a long interval. But I just parked the car once the problem started, and reluctantly drove my weekend car daily.

Anyway, today the front tires came in, and I had them installed. Guess what...the problem is totally gone now!
