Hello All,

I have been reading all the ABS light issues on the forum and decided to request some advice. I am not a mechanic and relatively new to the Z scene. I purchased a 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo from the original owner with only 12k miles on the vehicle. It is really a nice vehicle. He stated the car (obviously was not driven often) needed the brakes flushed from time to time or about every two years since it was not being driven. He said the cars are notorious for getting air in the lines causing the ABS light to come on. I purchased the car and light was not on. After driving it for approximately 150 miles the ABS light came on. The brakes appear to be working appropriately. I hate to take it into the dealership but it looks like I will need to if you do have any additional advice.

Thanks for your help,

Nathanial

Welcome to NICO! And WOW on the purchase! 12,000 original miles?! That is amazing! Let's see some pictures!

How do the brakes feel? Any additional effort to stop at all or do they feel normal?

The car is braking just fine. When I start the car the ABS light come on and then goes off as it should. I can drive about 1/2 mile and bam there it is. It makes me sick to my stomach. Picture to come.

The ABS light could very well be a bad sensor, poor connection, the abs pump going out, or issue with abs comp. Just put some tape over the light, make sure its the dark kind. JK, you might need to take that to a shop and have the look into it. Im not 100% sure if they scan the comp for codes on these cars, but the dealer might be able to tell you, if they have people that have worked on these cars still there.

Welcome, the car looks AMAZING!!!!

Thank you. I guess I will be taking it to the dealer once I can ensure the weather will hold out. It won't be driven in the rain.

No reason on taking it to the stealer ship, I has an ABS light on and went trough the FSM http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manu ... t&total=56

run diagnostics and it turned out to be a sensor, replaced sensor and ABS light is off now, read trough the chapter, diagnostics is on page 38 and it tells you what to check for the code you get, IMO is pretty simple.

Good luck

This is great to know, I had no idea they our cars are able to do it without any scanners.
