I know 240 verts have ABS rotors and pads, but didn't know some of them actually have ABS. I was looking at my buddy's vert and yes, it looked like it's factory installed ABS with sticker on the firewall and everything. It looked different from other ABS equipped s-chassis though. I've seen actuators on the passenger side and that thing is pretty big, but this one looked different. A couple of sensor looking things were on the brake lines right next to master cylinder. Who has ABS equipped vert here?

I wonder if it's a dealer installed option...

Yeah, all were base models when they came over, wouldn't think any would be factory installed.

I can get some pics this weekend. Yeah, I was surprised when I opened the hood. We will see.

That would be uber-cool (and rare as hell).

If the car did have abs it would be located near the passanger side firewall not the driver side where the BMC is located.

this is what the abs pump look's like is huge and is mounted on the passanger side shock tower. As you can see in the second photo.

Yes, that's actuator I believe. I see them all the time at the junkyard. But, this one was different. Looked more simple. I looked for wrench marks on the fittings, but couldn't find any. Usually, you get the marks if you work on master cylinder or install aftermaket stuff. I'll take pics this weekend for sure.

I wonder how easy it would be to retrofit with ABS.

it's not easy at all. you would need a whole abs car.

1. the wiring harnnes for one is diffrent chassis. 2. you would need an abs computer. 3. you would need to run all the lines to do this the motor needs to be out of the car. 4. you would need the abs hubs and spindles 5. A VLSD (because they all have abs sensors)6. you need to mount the abs pump and bleed the system.

Good Luck with all that. if you ask me it's not worth it.

I could hire a midget to pump the brakes on command.

7. Length of driveshaft is different too.

You have to command 8 times in one second. I think that's about right. ABS gives pressure about 8 times per sec on each corner.

I have a j30 on my car and have no drive shaft problems. and i think that that the abs cars have the same size drive shaft as the non abs 240's

idk. You have to specify when you order aluminum shaft. It's because length is different.

The length is different. The ABS pumpkin is an inch or so longer. I think it's possible to cram a non-ABS driveshaft in, but you'll wear the carrier bearing out eventually like that.

Yeah, its possible and know some using it with a problem, its just slightly more pressure on the carrier bearing. Think its only like 1/2 inch or less longer.

I had a chance to take a closer look at it today. No pictures yet, but yeah, it was aftermarket. It's from a company called ABS(Advanced Brake System), and it's somewhere in Spokane, WA.

That has to be an aftermarket system, and I'm not too sure I'd even trust it.

It looks and i must say thank you very much for the pics. But that thing is garbage i googled "Brake Guard Products, Inc." and i found a federal trade commision charge against faulty advertising. so by reading the artical looks like it was a dealer add-on not a factory one and they ranged from between "$283 and $349 and were put into 400,000 and 500,000 of the systems between 1990 and 1994".
