A few weeks ago I broke my Front left ABS sensor ('09 G37XS) Doing a wheel bearing. No biggie, had a fwe lights on the dash, was only RWD (which I enjoyed for a while) etc. Ordered a new ABS sensor, threw it in today and blammo, no more lights and the car is happy again. Maybe 50 miles later the lights come on again. Hmmm...
Get home, take it apart, abs sensor is just fine in the bearing assemble. However I did notice that one of the rubber clip things came out of the clip and was touching the brake rotor (or something else rotating) and wore through the insulation. It revealed a black and a while wire, and they were both down to the actual wire but didnt wear all the way through. I carefully examined and repaired with electrical tape, put it all back together again and Im still getting the dash lights. wth? The wires arent broken...the abs sensor itself is just fine and everything else looks good?
Now Im wondering if when it wore through it shorted something out on the computer side? I cant imagine since that would be a common failure I would think. I have no problem just getting another abs sensor and doing it again, I just wanted to know if anyone has seen this before?

Could be the wire is no longer at the right voltage if some of it was rubbed through. You could have also damaged the sensor by grounding it or shorted something else. I would start by looking at the fsm to determine what the voltage should be and go from there. I hope you are not leaving electrical tape on it either as that won't last.

OK if grounding out the sensor ruins it then thats good news. its cheap/easy to replace the sensor! Thanks. No, it was actually a self healing silicone tape, not electrical tape.

I have no idea if grounding it ruins it but that would be the first place to look.
