I've been living with an ABS warning lamp for 6 mo. now. At first it was on every other turn of the key. Now it's 90% of the time, a rarity to not have it on. When I do have ABS, it does still work well. The last time I really slammed on the brakes at 35 it stopped straight, and the system was buzzing and clicking as per design.

So I did the diagnostic as recommended by a helpful NICO Club techy- from the Nissan factory manual. I grounded the LOWER RIGHT CORNER point on the OBD connector and read the codes. Be careful because the diagram of that point is inverted in the manual!

I got codes 21 and 35, which indicate open circuits in both of the wheel sensors for the RF wheel, and the LR wheel. Sounds like a dual diagonal issue maybe? I'm worried that the ABS module is the problem, and not something simple like a bad sensor.

Anybody else have this issue- two wheel sensors, open circuits, even the other way, i.e., RR and LF?

My very nice local mechanic, not a Nissan specialist, but very good and honest, said he had a customer with an old Pathfinder that had some hard to figure ABS module problem. Is there any history of that with NICO members?

Have you checked the wiring harnesses for damage for the respective ABS sensors?

I looked at the harness leading to the control module, and it looked intact, but it's very tight in there, and the plug looked to be locked on with some type of retainer that I couldn't quite figure out. I was able to pull two related 40 amp fuses, turn on the car for one minute, then re-install the fuses. When I did this, the light went out after turning the key. The next key turn, the light came back. Do you think I'm looking at an ABS module/controller replacement?

Best,

George

What is the manufacturing date of your Pathfinder? It can be found on your driver door jamb sticker.

Try following the diagnostic procedure on page BR-56 of the factory service manual as best you can.
