Hi. A friend of mine has a '92 Nissan 240sx and doesn't know if she has anti-lock brakes. What would be the easiest way to figure out weather the car is ABS equipped or not?

Thanks!

Try locking up the wheels and listen for the ABS to kick in.

To do this, accelerate hard in first gear and then slam on the brakes. If you hear a low pitched rubbing sound, then she has ABS. If she just slides with the wheels screaming, then she doesn't. Easy enough, eh?

i think the master cylinder has two lines instead of three lines coming off of it, and then an ABS control unit that splits the front line in two for the front brakes. look for that

Hmm... I will check out the brake lines coming off the master cylinder. If I need verification, I'll try the brake slamming thing.

Thanks!

Or you can find the big unmistakable nipple-riddled ABS unit which is clearly visible from popping your hood. Its a big shiney silverish thing near the firewall (cant remember which corner) with a bunch of lines coming off of it.

Never hurts to test it out though!

99% sure of this info.

If I remember correctly, and your standing at your front bumper, its on the far left of yoru engine bay fairly close to the firewall. Thats for my s14 anyhow.
