So, Anyway for reasons I can't say I had a 2.5" exhaust put on and I have no Cat no resonator.

I now have a straight through exhaust with no bends almost what so ever.. and a straight through muffler... Its all a long story...

anyway

Well since the install I have had back firing issues which I knew i would seeing as I have no back pressure.

The problem I am having though is when im around 4k and gun it WOT It will accelerate very fast then at random will cut out and some times backfire really loudly... You can feel the lose of power. I am curious as to if this could all be cause by the lack of back pressure as I never noticed this problem before the exhaust was put on.

It drives fine normally and haven't had problems with it cutting out if I keep the throttle around 3/4 the way when I gun it.

This kinda makes me think it may be the TPS or something since I have idle sticking issues... that I cant tune out with the Idle control valve or timing at the Distributor. (Although I have also searched for vac leak but cant find anything. )

IF anyone has any kinda suggestions to check or comments let me know.

I was going to just redo the exhaust but since I'm swapping RB20det in I'm not to worried about it just kinda would like to figure out whats going on because it drives me nuts when I step on it in traffic and it takes off then just starts cutting and POPing...

O FYI. The engine is a SR20de... I posted in KA forums because its the closest thing to the sr20de since it has distributor ignition system.

Thanks guys.

I would say it feels like hitting the rev limiter. Though it is random at which RPM it does it. The first time It did it, I thought I had hit the rev limiter. Though I looked down and was only at about 4.8k

when you say rev limiter, it bounces off of the 4k rpm mark or just dies off?

Just cuts at around 4k but its random rpms over 4k. ITs just 4k. I mean it could be 4200 4500 5k 5.2k doest matter just random times.

mine does the same thing, but only every once in a while. if i figure it out i will let you know, but its hard to trace since it happens intermittently.

Yeah, Seems to be the same here also. Yesterday i did a coupe of runs up to 6200rpms and it never did it all day. Was in 2nd and 3rd gear on both times and never had a issue. I was also at 50dc water temp. I'm almost thinking it might be a temperature thing.

Well, I swapped plug wires from a Ka24de onto mine and took the silencer out of the muffler. before the last 2 days that i was talking about so I dont know if that has something to do with it or not.

I am going to try to replace my plugs and set the timing also if it keeps doing it.

I just wish i could get my Rb20det and get it in so i dont have to worry about it. lol

I had the same problems whith me 24E Once it was my MAF went bad (Old Car) Smae thing on the new car but i tryed the MAF And nothing. Turned out to be a loose ground. Check your ground mine was the Injecter ground bolt was loose it was tight enough to keep the car running but when it vibrated it would loose contact and feel like power cut off. Might try checking your grounds.

Thanks man, I'll check it because I do have a wire I think that is a ground that isnt attached to any thing. I'll check it today and also check my maf some time soon. I hear that the filter being dirty can cause the maf to mess up. So maybe thats my issue also.

Thank you though.
