I picked up an 89 240sx shell the other day, just so I could start working on it and have a 240 on the road again. Turns out upon further inspection (ie. ripping all the wiring out, gutting the interior completely as well as the engine bay) that there are nice sized rust holes that are definately going to be a problem. The floorboard behind the pedals (actually part of the firewall) has rusted through, leaving a half-dollar size hole in the cabin side, and a pretty nice size rust strip on the engine bay side. The passengers side quarter panel is also falling apart, and the doors don't fit properly.

I don't know what to do/if its even worth fixing. The funny thing is that I've got a garage full of parts, and don't even know if I'm going to be able to put them in now...doh.

p.s. Remember kids, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I now know this.

rust holes are easy to fix.... just stick to it.. sand it out.. fill the hole with streggtheing materiala nd then clear coat the whole inside to rpevent any more rust in forming.. tis expsensive but WORTH it.

lol. while you have the car apart to fix the rust, you might as well spot weld or stick a roll cage in there.

rust sucks, I'm gonna dread taking the gfx off of my car oneday...

put some rust prohibitor on that bad boy, or just treat it like cancer and cut it out entirely.

sounds small enough it wouldn't be hard to weld in a peice of sheet metal, then just paint that sucker up.

when it's the outer body it's a real *****. or areas surrouding suspension fittings and such.

don't need a plasma cutter, it's easier, but a sawzall will do the trick.

we didn't always have plasma cutters;)

assuming he can get the saw in there anyway:D

Yes, dremel and a cutting wheel would work, but whats even better is finding a hatch in good condition (ie no rust) for 600 dollars. And I'll have it by the end of the weekend...so long pos!

All the parts are in my garage. The only thing left on the car are the suspension/break components, and the heater/ac stuff. All the wiring is out (sitting in the hatch area). I think its time I called the tow company...

Quarter windows are still good, which gives me ideas actually...

Front fenders are still good, albeit being from different cars.

Ok. Do you know where I could get the tool for removing the quarter windows, I'm saving those too. **** they're in better condition than most fastbacks out there.

I don't know what condition the motor is in, but if you want it you can have it, just take care of shipping.

The resevoir is a no go cause its missing the top part (the fill tube)
