This question has probably been gone over 30234+ times, but I do believe mine may have a little twist.

I found a 93 Skyline in North Carolina for sale, the guy said it is not titled but he can have it titled in the state of North Carolina without a problem. After that is all said and done, what would I have to go through to title and register this vehicle to drive street legally in the state of Maryland?

I am aware that Maryland has 'Gray Market' vehicle inspections (kit car inspections etc) so I am wondering how strict they are, as well as what I would do for emissions.

I am new to the forum and am still learning about these cars and have never imported a car or have owned and imported car so I come to the ones who hopefully be able to assist.

Seriously, in order for it to be street legal, in the actual sense of the word, you have to wait about 5 more years before you buy/import one. Then it falls under the 25 year old no restrictions.

Now, that doesn't mean you can't buy one, get it titled and take your chances hoping you don't get caught with an illegally imported car, or get it insured, then cause or be in an accident and then have the insurance company find out it's been imported illegally and see what the fall-out is going to be.

It's a risk that comes with serious consequences for the amount of money you are going to spend. If you are comfortable with it, then by all means, go ahead. Just be aware of what you may have to go through.

As far as the article goes, if you can't get to it from the link, look at the nav menu at the top in gray, look for Articles/Reviews. Mouse over it and you'll get a drop-down menu to choose from. It will be one of the first few to show up.

I appreciate the straight to the point response, that's exactly what I've been looking for. Basically the risk is having the car seized? Would I have any problems registering the car and titling it in my state (Maryland)?I know of a few people here that have them and they have said they have had no problems but I am just wondering what I may encounter, I would have a loan out on this vehicle and to have it seized would fk me over a great amount I could imagine. The seller says he had done plenty of imports/sales of Skylines ETC and has had no problem maybe that is just luck?

I didn't know that it would be so damn hard to bring one over. And that article said you can register it as an "off-road" as long as it stays under 2,500 miles a year. Idk if this would be your daily or not but if you can keep it under 2500 a year than go ahead. I hope I didn't read that part wrong. Someone please let me know if I did and correct me.

Yea, don't buy a skyline unless it comes with a title.
