Ok, I (I say I, it's actually my dad's) have a 2004 Nismo Xterra with unnameable add ons and upgrades. Recently (about two months ago) every time we drove it for any more than about thirty minutes when we'd park there would be a strong burning oil smell. This in itself isn't too strange, we just figured we had a leak somewhere, we looked everywhere and couldn't find a leak. Another thing that is strange is that the we aren't losing oil very quickly, we just changed the oil before we had this problem and it's just now getting to the point where we need to put more in. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

First off, welcome to NICO.

Second, The NISMO Xterra is a sweet ride. I take it that it came with the SC. By your description it sounds like it is burning oil. If it has the SC is may have a leaking seal somewhere causing it to leak into the cylinders. That is only an eduated guess though which leads me to ask if you are seeing any smoke coming out of the tailpipe?

If its a v6 it is most likely the valve covers are leaking, the design is not good and the lil rubber grommets come loose. First start off tightening them down and if that doesn't work set aside a good weekend replacing things you've been meaning to do. I don't know how bad it is on Xterra's but on z31's you have to remove the intake plenum to get the valve covers off to replace the gaskets.

if its getting close to 60k and the t-belt hasn't been replaced then do-it, the water pump, t-stat, and CTS. These items aren't fun to replace by themselves but are much easier to do all at once. peace.

Uh, sorry for another stupid question but what do you mean by SC?

Yes, it is a V6. Dad already had the idea that it was a valve cover/valve body problem. I just wanted to confirm or deny this. Thank you for the help

P.S. The XTerra is like an orgasm in vehicle form. I love that truck

Ok, I have to correct my OP, it's a 2001 SE. It's not supercharged but it sure does have a lot of aftermarket stuff done to it. I'll have to get a full list of all the things down to it right now.
