i have a 15 inch kicker (Competition C15a 8 Ohm), Kenwood 1000W amp (Kac-929 stereo/bridgeable), and a sony deck.how should i run my power wire from the battery to the trunk?is it safe to run it by ECU?also i'm thinking about taking out the spare tire and somehow install the 15" into that space, but dont have a clear picture on how i should do this.i dont even know the volume space for this sub.

Use a 4 gauge power wire to run power, Use a fuse and place it under ther hud, not the interior. Unless you know how to build speaker boxes. Buy one. Its not that expensive.

I ran my power wire across the top of the engine bay (with the brake/clutch fluid lines) and into the hole where the cable to the hood popper goes in. The hood popper comes out of a black rubber boot under the clutch fluid reservoir, I just cut a hole big enough and slid it through.

I don't know if it applies to the power wire, but I keep all my wires away from each other. Im pretty sure if you run the RCA cables with the power wire it will cause noise from the speakers.

I am going to put a 12 in my spare tire well...here is my plan: Using the carpet as a template, cut a board to cover the whole bottom of the trunk. Make up some spacers for every side to raise it up enough that the bottom of the speaker will fit, I am going to put each amp on either side of the 12 underneath the board, with plexiglass over them. Then Im gonna seal the edges of the board with acoustic caulk or whatever to try to get it as sealed as possible, then fiberglass the board to make it look nice. Oh, and I already have the bottom of my trunk covered with Dynamat.

I don't even know if a 15" box will fit in the trunk of a 240sx. I have only seen them in s13 fastbacks. Last time I checked it was pretty hard to find a 15" box anyway, but that was a long time ago so they might be easier to find. You could do that, but the sub in the spare tire well is so much cooler .

Here is a site I just found that tells how to do this, and a million other things...

Suggestion: Fiberglass the spare tire well.

The Spare tire well is really shallow on the S14, you may not have the real estate for the sub in there, I barely had room for an amp and a changer. The spare tire is a tiny donut. For a single 15 in this car you are better off building something out of MDF. and it will probably take up most of the trunk above the spare tire cavity. If you require more trunk room I'd suggest a smaller more compact enclosure. You can run down the Passenger side for power, and the center console for the shortest signal path. If you have High quality gear and RCA cables and proper grounding, you should be noise free. Please remeber to use a fuse or circuit breaker at the battery.

YOu could always try an Aperiodic mat enclosure. It'd have to be vented to the outside if you used the spare well though, but it's entirely possibly.

My cousin had 2 12's in his S14 so I don't see why you can't have 1 15'' Might have to build box with a slant.Too bad you're too far away and don't know anyone around here with an S14 or I could give you some measurements of a box that would fit.Is it a comp 15 or CVR 15?

I'm not too far away. You're on the east coast of FL, correct?

Just feed me and I'll do the install for you for free:D

its a comp 15a 8 ohm.i tried to find a manual for it but got nothing since its an really old sub.i'm thinking of just building the box out of 3/4 MDF.2.25 ft^3 is what the web site says for their newer model of c15 for a sealed box. so i guess if i go with that, i should be fine?looked at the trunk today and maximum height is around 16 i think.so would a 20 W x 16 H x 16 D work out okay for compact sealed box?i used the WinISD program to find out the measurements.

now somowhere here i read that running the power cable from batter to the amp on the ECU side will cause some problem. is this true?

Nah, it's fine to run the power cable by the ECU. Just don't run the RCA and power cables on the same side

Power should be o.k. next to the ECU on wire harness. This is not ideal, but will work w/out noise as long as you use good a quality amplifier and have proper connections and grounds.

An 8 ohm single voice coil sub huh. I sure hope you have at least 500watts. or the sub will not be very effective. I would hate having you build a box and then find out it doesn't sound the way you expected after all the time you spent trying to achieve it. good luck!

Yes a box for most 12" woofers will fit in the trunk, A single 15 should also, just requires a sacrifice. You will not have much space left this could also be slightly heavy for an MDF box of this size and placing it at a moment rearward of the rear axle could drastically change handling characteristics. But it is' possible.

whats the best setting for the speaker box position?is it better to have the speaker facing the back seat or have the speaker facing upwards to the trunk?i dont want my trunk to rattle to much after this install.

Bass is non-directional so I wouldnt worry too much on how the sub is facing. If your going with a 15 inch, I dont think you can stop your trunk from rattling. Dynamat everything you can, that should help.

You want to put the enclosure up against the trunk, and face it towards the cabin:

Depends on what shape it is. 3ft^3 isn't physically that large. 1x1x3, or 2x1.5x1, or etc...

Depends on the shape
