Unless someone yells "DONT DO IT!"

I got a quote of $1400 + $375 to $415 for shipping to Texas.Engines are said to be compression tested and must be at least 150psi on all cyl before they will ship it. Comes with all the goodies required.

30 day startup warranty. 3-5 days for shipping via yellow frieght.

They were reccomended by a friend and I haven't seen any complaints about them on a couple of forums I read. In fact I read a thread with nothing but nice things to say about them in another nico thread, but its a few years old.

Sounds like a pretty fair price. Don't we have a few members from Quebec? You should ask someone to go over there and see the engine for you.

Are they charging you custom's fees? Are there customs fees?

It looks like you can make payment with your credit card which is great. That way if they never ship to you, you can dispute the charge and hopefully get your $$$ back.

You could also ask them for referances of people (in the US) that they have sold to recently. Call those people and ask how things went. What condition the engine was in, if anything was missing, and why aren't they posting here on NICO.

Good luck!

I was just sent some pics of the motor.

What wires are those that have been cut? And do I need them not to be cut?

I just got another email from them.

Customs fees are included in the cost.

The cut wires in the picture are to the fuse box harness. He said I didnt need them. Can someone back this up? I would assume if I dont use one from skyline, that the 240sx s13 one will be ok.

I have to say that the contact I have been talking to has answered every one of my questions so far and has been very helpful without pressuring me to buy.

I think I'm getting close to buying a rb20det!

That isn't a bad price since the import fees are included. I got my rb26 motor from Canada and the import fees/shipping ended up being close to $600. It did only take 4 busniess days to get to Texas so the shipping time is accurate.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to check around in the US first as others have mentioned because you may be able to find a better deal.

I've heard good and bad about venus. I'd rather pay a little more and have peice of mind that I'm getting a good motor.

last quote I got from venus was $1000 for the motorset and $412 for shipping. It saves $400, enough to buy decent motor mounts. Some people have had issues with motors from them in the past. Maybe they have improved since then.

I have a friend in MD who got an RB25 clip from venus. He installed it and a few weeks later the oil pressure droped and the motor got a rod knock. He called up venus and they sent him another RB25 long block.......So alteast they will help you out if you have a problem and there prices are very fair compaired to some other importers.

Ask them if they have any connection to osaka motors, or Plan B. Osaka seems to screw people over, ruin their rep, and basically start new companies that no one has heard of, and screw people over through them...

Otherwise, seems good...

I got my RB20 clip from venus. I live in sacramento so I just went down there...had them compression check it in front of me...gave them some money and had the tow truck driver take the clip to the shop. I ended up having a few problems with the motor such as coil packs, ignitor, and something else small but I just went back there and they gave me all the parts i needed for free.

sometimes you get bad motor's from them but they will resolve the situation to any extent as far as giving you a whole new clip if needed.

I plan on buying from them again

It was one of the nico sponsors that reccomended this place to me to begin with, I was just hoping someone had personal experience with them and could give a thumbs up or down.

BTW, I found this thread:zerothread?id=45405

The guy mentioned in that thread still works there and is the same guy that is talking to me.

Finally took the plunge, rb20det should arrive Friday.I have a tracking #Engine was compression tested before it was put on the truck at 150psi across the board.

I ordered TopHat performance mounts and downpipe as well.

Now I need an intercooler!

Got the motor! So far everything looks good. Ecu, wiring harness, MAF, all accessories are in place. Even came with an extra A/C compressor.

My mechanic checked it out said it looked like it was in really good condition internally. Turned the crank by hand and told me it felt really smooth and seemed like it had good compression.

My motor mounts and 3" downpipe have arrived as well.

Now I just need to get some belts and an intercooler setup. Probably should get some gaskets too. I need another paycheck lol.

Now where did I put my soldering iron ad heat shrink...

glad you got your motor man, always good to know some companies come through. i know from experience that it's always a little tricky when trying to get a motor and what i learned from my experience is never go to flashoptions....but if you do you can sue them even when your in the US...HAHAHA...and credit cards are always good to use...never do wiretransfers, or anything of the such

Is 150 psi in each cylnder good? I did a compression test yesterday and got 180+ in 5 cylnders and 165 in one of them.

On another forum, 150-165 was considered normal. 180 seems quite high, do you have an rb25?

Im no expert, but 180 seems way to high for a rb20det
