Uh, there is a lot of stuff I copied from searching on these forums, right into my parts list. So if the text looks familiar, it's cause it is.

Can I run a KA 3" exhaust on an RB20? Also, is there any where that just has a premade RB20 harness for the S13?

You should also get a aluminum radiator. Mishimotor or cxracing is fine, I picked up a used CXracing rad for $60 from a junkyard and its been perfect.

And even if you don't, you will need two electric fans, because the stock fan will probably be broken and you cant fit a normal fan in with out mods to the chassis any way. I run 2 13in pusher fans I got from jegs. $150 and they are quietish and flow tonnns of CFM.

You don't need a cas, but a used spare would probably be a good idea. $75-150 is usually what they go for.

You'll also need a Z32 TT thermostat. Normal temp is fine for a street car/daily and low temp is a good idea if it'll see track time.

Cat backs are chassis specific not engine specific. You will need a RB-schassis specific down pipe. I made my own. You can also get a psyko (sp?) down pipe that bolts to the rb turbo. Its 3in and has more steering shaft clearance then normal and also uses a super common sr20 down pipe.

Other then that thats about it. You'll probably want a FMIC soon too.

Why do I need the 300ZX Thermostat? Does the stock RB20 one not cut it, or what..?

I believe it's Syko Performance...but they don't have any products for RB20's. All I saw were 25's and 26's. I'm not sure about the interchangeability of these engines though, so the 25/26 DP might work..

And here's my new updated list. (it only contains items needed to get the motor working properly, no performance mods listed/needed as of yet)

- Water Pump OEM
- Timing Replacement Kit OEM
- OEM Oil Pump and Strainer
- 6 Puck Clutch
- All Accesorry Belts
- Z32 Fuel Filter
- Z32 Thermostat
- Walbro Fuel Pump
- Spark Plugs
- Oil Filter (which?)
- 02 Sensor
- RB20 Motorset
- Wiring
- McKinney Mount Kit or R32 Crossmember
- KA Aluminum Radiator
- Dual Electric Fans
- Syko Downpipe
- Custom Throttle Cable Bracket

Anything that can be removed or added please let me know. I'm trying to save money, not waste it on s*** I don't need.

I read some where that you can only use the r32 crossmember if your motor comes with the r32 motor mounts. :squint: Im ordering my motor today where are you finding yours so cheap from?

skip the cas, oil pump, and pickup...spending money you dont need to.
i have had good luck fitting the CXracing r32 gts-t/r radiator to swapped cars, it sits a bit tall but it fits under the hood just fine, you'll need a spacer under the mount brackets but its ok as is.
not to mention last one i bought was 140$ shipped.
a good set of fans and a new z32 tt GENUINE nissan thermostat along with the waterpump should keep it reasonably cool.

I've seen you around a lot in the RB section so I'm going to take your advice. So ditch the oil pump/strainer/cas?

Which fans will fit..? I'm sure there isn't that much room with the RB20 in the bay.
So, I need to get a Z32 Nissan Thermostat, and a OEM RB20 Waterpump. Sounds good.

The strainer and cas are not needed.

I would still recommend the oil pump, as they can wear out on the part that contacts the crank and these engines have oil problems. Its $100-160 or so and its cheap insurance. Just like the T stat, they are just simple metal springs and after sitting for years with some coolant rusting away in the block, the one in the motor set is likely junk.

And I told you you'll need 2 pusher fans, mean in front of the radiator pushing air through it. A pair of 12-13in is the most common setup.

Got it.

Does anyone know a reputable source to buy an RB20DET from? I was going to try Jspecauto, but I want to be sure I am buying from an honest source, before buying.

a new oil pump is only good if you correct the issue that they have in the first place...and that is the short oil pump drive.
i revved my rb20 hard to 8500 on stock pump and snout and had minimal wear, some blow up some dont.

As Carl mentioned, the oil pump drive collar is the issue with the oil pump setup upfront. However, the collar issue isn't as serious as when read. Just make sure you replace the common parts like the water pump, timing belt and pulleys, gaskets, etc.

List looks about right for a solid swap.

this will save you a lot of money on fans. the RB26 i pulled out of my car made just over 600rwhp and never had any heat issues with these.

This radiator setup was also ran in my car, never having a single issue.

Brennan, what size of fan is the most suitable?

Also, does anyone know a reputable source to buy an rb20 from?

www.jhotimports.com

That's where I got mine, and a lot of people people. I picked mines up, but I've NEVER heard of them doing anyone wrong. I'd call and get one reserved on their next shipment if they don't have one available.

I don't really understand JHOT.

Do I basically need to lurch the website and wait for an RB20DET to arrive, and then call and reserve it/buy it? I'd rather just be able to buy the engine at any time....

And the ebay store never has inventory of engines, either. Except STi motors, 4AGE's, and rotary disasters.

I went with two 12" fans. One pusher, one puller, and I staggered them.

So as I said call, they have a list of motors coming in the next shipment always. Would you rather have a good motor and have to wait, or get one that might be sh*tty? I think I'd rather wait...the one I got from them was in MINT condition when I tore it down. Also came with a lot of sh*t.

My motor i got from jdm planet aka osaka motors looks like a pretty good engine. has a couple broken sensors, but that was it. The oil on the dipstick looks good but we will find out in a couple days when i do a compression test.
