Hello everyone.....I'm looking at a 92 240 SX(automatic) with 250xxx miles on the clock.

The owner doesnt know if the motor has been rebuilld or not(he bought it with 230xxx on the car)

The motor & transmission is running pretty good........he's asking for $1300

Is this a good deal??

How many miles does the motor usually last if it has not been rebuilded??

Thanx in advance

Welcome to NICO Andy! What does the rest of the car look like? Body in good shape or is it rusted? Does it leak fluids or smoke on startup? It's very possible that the engine has not been rebuilt. If well maintained and serviced, that engine can go 300+.

If the body is in good condition, that may not be a bad deal. Make sure the transmission doesn't slip and motor doesn't miss. Have you bought used cars before?

I accually perfer looking for autos. They havn't been beat too hard because its an auto that shifts about 700 before redline. Many auto aren't hotrodded either. Yes there are a few cases when they have been beat to hell and back twice. Also when I convert to five speed I have no speed cut using the auto ecu. I love idea of not puching in the clutch to start it too, after I convert to manual. Face it with me the auto wont stay in more than a few days. Just my two cents. I would stick with finding a good frame and body, you can always find good engines and trans. I looked for a while till I found one with a decent body and frame that hadn't been wreaked. Nick
