I go and test drive a 89 240sx on sunday. wanted $950 for it. the passenger PW didnt work and the bumpers were primered but the car ran good 140K on it. little oil leak at the valve cover. it was a good deal. and since my current 240sx was totalled, but im still driving it bc im poor and cant find a good car for a good price. well i tell the guy i want to buy it and get it checked out by a mechanic on tuesday. well he calls me tonight (monday night) and says a guy came and is buying it tomm and put down a deposit.

i am just heartbroken. it was a good deal and i am just inexperienced and didnt put down a deposit. i just wanted to get my feelings out. i am just depressed right now.

Hey man, don't sweat it... while < $1000 is a good deal, it might be worth the extra bills you'll spend to get a better one later!

Maybe this'll make you feel better...

My roommate searched for almost a year to find a clean FC3S (2nd-gen RX7) for a good price. Everytime he got close, the seller always backed out, demanded more money, or waited until he had gone ALL THE WAY to see the car to tell him it was already sold. All this time, he kept saving money to spend on his eventual car.

So finally, almost a year after he started looking, a listing came up for a clean titled, newly painted FC3S with a rebuilt motor... the price? Exactly what he had geared up to spend: $3500. When we got there, the seller explained that he didn't have a rebuilt motor, but that the "new rotors" he had mentioned were the brake rotors. The engine ran decently when I test drove it, and the seller explained that it tended to overheat... FYI: Overheating = instant death for rotary engines. Anyway, I told my friend it was his call, though the car wasn't worth $3500 to me. He threw down $3500 immediately and started celebrating that he finally had found his car.

To make a long story short, the car overheated three times on the way back to our place (about 30 miles) and a couple days later, we could smell coolant in the exhaust. So, $3500 and a bunch of parts later, the car is toast. And you know what? It's going to be MONTHS before he has the money to rebuild the engine.

Moral of the story? Desperation leads to bad decision making... little problems could actually be symptoms of bigger issues. While a deposit guarentees you the car, make sure the car is really what you want. Sucks that your deal fell through, but don't jump right for the first car you see. Better luck next time, man!

yeah i learned from buying a 1985 300zx turbo to be patient. i didnt get to put the car on the lift and didnt think the rust was that bad, well long story short the rust was a lot worse than thought and had to part the car out and lost a couple hundred on it.

it has been about 6 months now of me looking for a car and i just need to be patient. i need to get over this and continue.

Yeah, I kinda rushed to get this s13 for $1,100. If I had waited, I would have gotten a manual DOHC (at the time of purchase I didnt know their was sohc/dohc and the bumpers were different, etc). I have an auto sohc. I havent had too many major problems with it, but I kinda wish I'd waited and found a better conditioned one. And I've put too much time, money, and effort into it to sell it now

But the next car I get...I WILL be patient, new or used.
