Hello, all, new to the Forum! About to buy my first Infinity from a work buddy. Does this engine need a timing belt change? I always hear folks ask that, but as I do not know if this engine has a chain or belt, I don't know what is recommended. Anything else I need to know? Thank you!

I bought a '99 I 30 last November and have had to repair an air bag module ($600) and the AC Condensor ($750) so I would check those. If your buddy is the original owner, see if he ever had the air bag module replaced. I'm currently running with a p0400 code (EGR closed) that I am afraid to get worked on. Supposedly, it may have to do with the hose that connects the tailpipe to the EGR valve and we are looking at about $250 to replace that. If it is something else, who know's how much it will cost. I have heard that it could be related to running regular unleaded so you may want to ask your buddy if he has been running premium.

Overall, I am very happy with the car and wish I had upgraded to this class of car a lot earlier. John

Good call! I have had my 99 for 2 years. It had 94k on it when purchased and now has 122k. It is still very nice! I thought about getting a Q, but they are hard to find around here. Anyway, I have replaced 2 side airbag modules ($900), an EGR valve ($340), new belts, fluids, tires, and brakes all of the way around. It still rides much nicer than most cars.

The '99 I-30t is a GREAT Car. I've had mine since it was new; bought it after owning 2 Maximas. It was my way of getting another "Maxima" while keeping the wife happy because she wanted me to get something "other than" a "Maxima" . Now has about 90K miles on it. Haven't had anything "major" go on it. Just replaced an Oxygen sensor a few months ago. Had a temp sensor (which was part of the Auto Climate control) go at about 60K -- Infiniti covered that under warranty, however. I feel that the shocks/struts are getting a little "soft" now. Other than that, it's been an excellent and most reliable car. Just keep up with all the routine/preventative maintenance.
