Hello everyone.....I'm looking at a 92 240 SX(automatic) with 250xxx miles on the clock.

The owner doesnt know if the motor has been rebuilld or not(he bought it with 230xxx on the car)

The motor & transmission is running pretty good........he's asking for $1300

Is this a good deal??

How many miles does the motor usually last if it has not been rebuilded??

Thanx in advance

*chuckle* rebuilded....ummm well if the ka hasn't been rebuilt....umm tough call since you don't know how it was treated/maintained....if all is well you might be able to squeeze 300,000 from the motor...the transmission on the other hand, well slushies don't last past 150k 9 times out of 10...so i'd imagine its either on its last legs or has been rebuilt, you say its running well so it might not be much to worry about. No matter what, parts are cheap for this car, and if something should go, it wont cost an arm and a leg to get it fixed. Con him down to a grand and you have yourself a nice little ride (maybe look into a 5 speed swap too :))

I bought my 91 for $800 with 215k miles and no rebuild, some minor work and it's pimpin' new now. Sounds like you could talk the price down a few hundred maybe. Is the exterior/interior in good condition?

I got my 240 For $800 at an auciton and about $200 more in extra fees. It had 212,000 miles on it and there was two owners. The last one smoked A LOT I found cigarette buts under the center console. Tons of them. Its time for a new engine at 219K but it hasnt broken down on me. The interior (now cleaned) and Exterior are great. Small dent on the hatch but thats ok. I would talk him down to 1 grand.

A newer engine with only 30k to 60k (KA24DE) cost me about $850 might be a little more now. ASAPmotors.com. The rebuild depending on the parts you use, I did a check at AUTOZone and the overhaul kit was around $550. Oh and that comes with a free pair of gloves :)
