There are several NICO members in Marietta -

Perhaps someone will go look at it with you?

I would listen to all the advice in the lemonaid guide. Make up a checklist of mechanical things to check but make sure you get a mechanic to inspect it if you decide you want it. I bought a 91 quite recently from an accountant on the net. I made the mistake of not getting a mechanic to look at it. I did a search of the guys posts so i knew it had been in a major accident. He never told me about that until i asked. You can do a search to find out if car has been stolen or in accidents or money owing etc You want to make sure it has not come from a part of the country where they don't salt the roads. I did do a road test but I missed that the clutch was not right. It was a new clutch but the linkage was faulty. The test drive was downtown so i could not go over about 60km. It turned out that one of the sparkplug wires was cracked so car could not go over 70 without losing power. The battery was completely dead. The alternator and starter had to be replaced within 5000 kms.(unavoidable) One of the tires had a slow leak and the two rear tires needed replacing. The stock radio/cassette did not work. He admitted to AM not working. This turned out to be an antenna problem and the cassette player was broken. Also, the plastic antenna rope that causes the antenna to go up and down was broken . These are about 20 dollars. The speakers were shot. The guy said in his ad that he was moving and had to sell. I call him every month or so in the middle of the night. He never moved. He is a young CPA working for major firm. The car broke down on the way home.(clutch) There was no jack.

Alot can go wrong so it is better to take your time and check everything . Don't try to get a deal . just get a fair price. The book values for used cars assume the car is in perfect working condition. Don't pay extra just because there is a new clutch or even engine. SOmething is always being replaced on a used car.Batteries , muffler, brakes etc cost a ton to replace so don't just check the transmission and engine. Look at lots of cars of the same model to get a sense of how there condition varies. Private sellers are much more crooked than professionals.
