1. It's got HID. Yes, it's cool. I know light bulbs. Is HID a PITA to own?

2. VQ35 is chain, not belt, right?

3. Car have 60K miles. Any major service that is coming up and need to be done around this time?

4. I don't know the history of the car. Car fax shows really nothing. It is being sold by another brand dealer. They "prep" the car for sale. They said they "inspected it." Ok, it looks clean with a shine. What should I look for?

5. It's the last year with the 5spd auto trans. Not CVT. Nissan is all CVT now. Was that a good trans? Any maintance coming up for the trans at 60K and over?

6. Anything else I should know?

7. 06 SE 60K for $14K. auto trans. Good price? Fair price? Or there are better?

TIA

The Maxima is a reliable car, provided the previous owner did not abuse it. And this particular generation is much pleasing to the eyes. The VQ engine is one of the best engines in the world. And yes, it has timing chain.

The price is just about right but at 60K, the dealer should have done the 60K Service. If I were you, I will not buy the car unless the 60K Service is done. You might as well have the transmission flush to prolong its lifespan.

The A34 is a 6th Gen Maxima (04-08) and is the first one made in the US and sold exclusively in North America. It's not the same as the Maxima/Teana made overseas.

The 5-spd auto in your 06 Maxima is much better than the 4-speed in the earlier years. However, do a thorough inspection of the car - interior, exterior, chassis/suspension and engine compartment. Check the level and condition of the fluids. Check the AC, stereo, power windows and sunroof as well as the lights. Do a test drive on city streets and listen for unusual noise - rattle/squeak/grinding/thud indicative of problem with the car. Take it to the highway and drive at various speeds and check basic alignment, unusual wind noise and vibration/shimmy. The latter is not uncommon with this particular generation. And when SAFE, do a hi-speed braking (>45MPH) and watch out for vibration (maybe warped rotors and even bad suspension).
