i am getting ready to reassemble the engine nowthis is going into an s13 silvia being rebuilt onto a legal american unibody frame (because importing the whole car was out of the question)

first, my expectations: i am trying to get roughly 375 whp/ft lbs with turbo spoolup around 3500-3700 rpm (max, if i can get it down to 3000, thats awesome)

engine work that was completed:engine hot tankedcylinders hand honedentire rotating assembly balancedhead pressure tested

everything machined until within spec (except the cylinder wall clerance, it was about .00015 over spec.. but with high boost, and a thicker oil, should be fine)

now, the parts list that i have (engine and associated parts only):

clevite 77 bearings and ringstomei 1.5mm metal head gasket (reduce compression to 8.2:1)ARP head studsHKS cams (intake 256/8.5 , exhaust 256/8.53)clevite oil pumpall new gasketsz32 (and r32) fuel pumpadjustable FPRunidentified t28 turbo (.48 ar, what is this turbo from?)GTIr t28 turbo (.60 ar)Blitz SS (i think its an SS) BOV rewelded onto a 2 inch pipeHKS intake (just the mushroom filter, bolts to the MAFs)monsta (austrailian company) equal length stainless manifold and divided dump pipet-spec (?) stainless 2.5 in (at dump) 2.75in (at cat) downpipe with flex section (soon to be welded in)2.75 in test pipe 80 mm HKS exhaust5 kg billet flywheel3 puck clutch (unidentified, came with my silvia, pretty stiff)nismo clutch slave cylindernismo motor and transmission mountsAPEXi powerFCAPEXi GT-spec front mounta bunch of APEXi and HKS IC piping with samco triple layer silicon connectorsGreddy profec (the original) boost controller (until i get the boost control unit for the powerfc)torsen helical LSD (from an S15)9 inch wide rears with medium grade (not too hard, not too sticky) rubberboost, A/F ratio (A-Pillar) oil temp, oil press, and volt (upper DIN slot) gaugesoil catch tank

parts on the way:

Q45 maf and igniterDSM 550cc injectorsHKS adjustable cam gearsunderdrive water pump pulleyaluminnum radiatorwideband O2 sensoroil cooler and remote oil filter setupand all the oil lines redone with braided stainless

should i get a new fuel rail too?

comments? anything you can think of else that i should do before i start building?

and for the future, i will probably end up getting one of the new garrett t3 flanged GT turbos for higher power, but i still want the quick spool.. research and asking tells me a GT3071 with .48 ar and a 38mm external wastegate should do this for me, be able to push 25-30 psi without trepidation, and still spool down near 3500

but thats the future, i am working with the T28s now .. im guessting the .48 AR one will spool a bit quicker, but the .60 will have more kick up higher and flow more air... is this a true statement?

First things first, no matter what T28 you choose, 375whp is not going to happen. And no matter what turbo you choose, you're not going to see spool until 4200-4500 at BEST for a 375whp goal.

Second, I don't know why you would want to lower your compression even more. All that is going to do is induce more lag. Typically people who run lots and lots of boost and nitrous are the ones who lower their CR.

Third, I don't really understand your description of the turbos. Are you talking about the turbine housing A/R or the compressor housing? Either way, a .48 housing is most likely a T25 unless its one of the T28s off an RB26, in which case its a crappy choice. The GTiR T28 does have a .60 compressor housing, but the back side is HUGE (.86) so its a pretty laggy turbo and not going to get you close to your goal of 375whp (maybe 310whp with the mods you listed).

Fourth, you don't need adj cam gears with HKS cams. HKS' cams are degreed from the factory.

Fifth, a GT3071R is not going to spool anywhere near 3500 even with a .48 backside. Maybe on a KA24, but not on a CA.

550's are gonna be small for the power you want too.

adjustable timing gears are not strictly to dial in aftermarket cams. there is decent amount of horsepower/torque to be had by adjusting the stock cams alone.

You don't need a new fuel rail either. I don't think even a GT series turbo will have you spooled by 3500rpm for that kind of HP.
