I recently acquired my '93 240 hatch from an old roomie. Some lady ran down the side of it with the bumper of her brand new F-150 while backing out of her parking spot. The guy had it totaled out and took the money to get a new car. He signed it over to me for $800, which he said was what he's put into it (let alone what he originally paid for it). The body damage actually isn't that bad. I can push most of it out myself when I have a free weekend. None of the paint was lost, so there is no rusting. There is no damage around any tight corners like around the door jam, which would suck.
The car had/still has a few small problems.
It was leaking clutch fluid from the clutch master cylinder, into the interior. A quick drive to autozone, a $20 part and 30 minutes later, that was fixed.
The safety switch that doesn't let the car start without having the clutch depressed was bypassed. There is a small metal flange that comes off the side of the clutch pedal arm which presses the switch. Well, there's a small hole on the flange that lines up perfectly with that switch, so that the flange doesn't hit the button. I'm supposing that there used to be some sort of plastic filler in that hole that would hit the switch, but it was gone. Can anyone tell me about that?
Anyway, I glued a penny over the hole so that the switch gets pressed now.
The brakes had a similar problem. They were always on. Even with the car shut off. So he had the fuse taken out. I looked at the brake pedal and there are two switches for the brake lights with the same holes that lined up over them like the clutch. Two pennies glued on there and that's fixed. So ten cents worth of glue, 3 pennies and 10 minutes later, two problems solved.
I haven't had time to really get into the engine bay and poke around, but I have peeked in there briefly to check the fluids and stuff. He put an Injen intake system (not sure which series) on it, but nothing else immediately obvious. I think the clutch might be aftermarket because shifting just feels too sweet to be stock. I just haven't had time to really sit down and get all the details from him.
So anyhow, that's my long-winded story. Where should I start with this thing guys?
Oh, and does anyone know where to get the two little bulbs for the A/C controls besides from the dealer$hip?
