I heard rumors that the chain on the ka needs to be replace at 50-80k. Is this true??? I heard the chain is not a problem but the other parts which keeps the chain going.

thanks...

No. Only time you need to replace that other stuff is when they're about to go or have gone. The chain itself is very sturdy and I've personally seen one go well past 300k without any cracks in the links. Just the guides are something to have some concern about. But 50-80k, that's pretty quick even for the regular plastic guides. Mine went 150k before wearing out. So take some peoples horror stories with a grain of salt.

ok florida, the night before it was tapping really bad. loud as hell. then on the way to the mech.'s this mornin, the car died on me while in gear, then when i went to start it up again, it sounded like somethin was in the motor clunkin around, and at first it didnt want to turn over, it just went "rrr..rr..clunk..clunk" then started , also the exhaust note sounded like the timing was off. all he said was the chain guide came off and the chain had slack in it. but ill ask more tonight when i go to tow it home,. but how much u think a used ka-e would go for??

That sounds about right then. You top guide broke off and got flung into your cam/timign gear and made you jump a tooth and probably bent valves. You can the ka24e pretty cheap.I got mine with transmission(5spd) for $200.If you don't find one for under $300 I say you just rebuild the motor.Plan to turbo? If your car didn't smoke....You could do the head swap but it takes lots of time and don't know if it would be much cheaper than to do rebuild. If you do it yourself.....Are you wanting to boost?

where did you get yours?, idle like to swap the de head on my sohc block, but i dont have a garage to do all that work in,i do have a carport though. whats a good website to buy the rebuild kit from? no i dont want turbo, and as far as moddin goes all i have right now is intake and exhaust, but would probaly go as high as cam(s) and a chip, no internal work, and lots of suspension work. i still want it to be real reliable. but right now i dont have a car to get a second job for all that, just rides from my girlfriend for now..sucks..
