I did a search on this topic and connot find consistant information. I would like to know if, in fact, the front speakers have crossovers and not amps. Also, would those crossovers affect the sound of a three way speaker. Second, where exactly are the rear amps? Are they really amps? Is there only one? Thanks to all who reply.

I think each front speaker has its own tiny amp. If you pull the speaker out, the amp's in the same assembly that the speaker's mounted to. I believe (but not sure) that the rears have one amp and it's on the driver's side, under the trim below the rear speaker. Everyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I'm not an audio expert. I have 2-way Kenwoods in my doors and they sound normal to me. I've also got my big amp running in series through the stock ones. That's just because I'm too lazy to rewire my car while it's hot as balls. I'm sure my little system will sound better once I have some fatter wires running straight from my Kenwood amp to the speakers.

I am yaking out all of my speakers Saturday and replacing them. I will let you know the size, location, and setup of the entire system, if you like:)

your looking for the sizes? Crutchfield.com has all of them...but its 4x6 plates fit in the front, and 5x7's in the rear deck...

there are two small pieces of **** in the front, (crossovers if you'd like) you just pull them out when you take out the stock speakers and install what you have...im not sure of any rear amp or crossover

i already ripped out those mini-amps in the front doors. they do 10x more harm than good. and there is defenitely an amp and crossover of some sort in the rear. i've gone thru 3 pairs of speakers because of those blasted things. have not yet ripped apart the hatch to find out. i will when the head subsides. in the meantime, i'll keep taking advantage of my warranty.the only true solution to these problems is to run speaker wire straight from your head unit to your 4 speakers. or use an external amp and run out your preouts, but you'd still be rewiring all 4 speaks anyway.

The stock speakers are 4x6's all around. Each front speaker has its own amp on a L shaped circuit board mounted on the same 'box' the speaker is mounter to. Under the rear driver's side speaker is a tin-can sized amp for both rears. You do not have to rewire the speakers if you rip out the amps. I dont remember the wire colors for the front(I think its the red and brown), but the two wires that arent 12v, ground and remote, are the signal lines. In the rear if you take apart the amp, the connections are all labeled inside. Just connect each input line to its corresponding output line to bypass the amp.

The fastbacks fit only 4x6 all the way around. Unless you make your own bracket. I made a preliminary template using plexiglass so I could see where everything was going to go and how it would fit, then made one with a thin sheet of wood, and some dynamat extreme on both sides, then put a 6.5" speaker in there. I plan on doing the same with the rear with 6"x9" speakers, well minus the plexi. BTW plexi rattles like a mofo. The placement of the 6.5's if you're going to use the Infinity Kappa 63.5i's should be as far away from the driver and passenger on that custom made bracket as possible, otherwise you'll encounter the window hitting the top of your speaker and won't crank down all the way.
