Hello all!

Well after 5 months of research and test drives I am about 5 days from purchasing a Rogue. I just have a couple of questions that maybe some of the great posters here can answer:

1) Side molding. I've seen a couple of threads on it, but wanted to know how essential people think it is and will a Rogue get really scratched up without it. If it is something that is fairly essential is this something I can get done at the dealer or is it something I have to do myself?

2) I hear stories about excessive noise inside the car, especially in passenger area. How bad is it really? I am not that sensitive to noise but if it is distracting then I would like to know.

3) How responsive has Nissan been to concerns and issues with the Rogue?

4) How noticeable on Venom Red are scratches, swirls, etc..

Welcome to the forum!

These are all good questions.

IMHO, this is not essential. Door heights vary between cars and it's impossible to apply a molding that will protect your car from all door dings. If you do want it, I would suggest getting a trim shop that specializes in this product to apply it. Do this with all your accessories before purchasing from the dealer. Many times, it will be much cheaper to get it done by an outside shop.

There have been several threads about this. Most complaints center around tire and wind noise. Engine noise is non-existent at cruising speeds. IMHO the Rogue is average for the class. It's not the quietest, but it's not annoying either.

I think experience varies by dealer. Some have been very co-operative, others have not. The biggest item to date is the door sill scratching (see sticky at the top of the forum). It's still unresolved, but Nissan is working on a solution.

Although I do not have Venom Red, the Iridium Graphite hides everything well. Black is probably the hardest colour to keep clean next to Red. Perhaps other owners of Venom Red can chime in.

Good luck!

I agree with everything Philipa said. I don't have a red Rogue either so can't comment, but regarding cabin noise I don't have any issues. In reality it probably is about average for the class, and when you drive through water puddles or gravel and sand it does make quite a bit of noise on the underside of the Rogue, mainly towards the back cargo area, but it isn't excessive, and if you want you can easily apply some cheap sound dampening materials to the inside of the cargo area - this is described in detail in another post.......

Bottom line - nothing to worry about if you are happy with things when you test drive.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

One other question:

Before I pick up my new Rogue should I ask the dealer to fix the rusting problem that people have been having with the bottom of doors. Meaning should I have them put some sort of protector on the door frame so it does not happen.

I would advise that you get a strip of clear paint protection film installed as described in other posts. 3M and others make this product.

Nissan has not come out with a permanent fix yet, so this is a good preventative measure.

1.) All my door dings are above the height of the molding, therefore, I have not purchased the molding.

2.) I don't really notice the noise, but my Rogue was a huge step up from my old plymouth.

3.) I haven't really had any major concerns, but they have been great with the little ones.

4.) I have Venom Red and love it! The only paint problems I have involve other carless drivers and their doors. I have had my Rogue since October and the paint still looks great!

Congrats!

1) Side molding. - Another vote for the 'mostly useless' voice.

2) I hear stories about excessive noise inside the car, - i strongly disagree. My OEM tires (dunlop) are noisy, but regarding wind noise, I rank it best in class - one reason I chose the Rogue over the RAV4, CR-V, Outlander. The shape is a bit more aerodynamic.

3) How responsive has Nissan been to concerns and issues with the Rogue? - After I sent them a complaint letter, they've called me several times (3 times in about 1.5 months). Pretty good response in my books.

4) How noticeable are scratches, swirls, etc.. - ??? mines white.

I fully agree in the world of small suvs the Rogue is the quietest in its class. I think if you look back in other posts Car and Driver had decibel info in their comparison.

I've only had my Rogue for a little over a week, but wanted to chime in on a couple of things. So far, I am very, very pleased with how quiet it is. I haven't noticed any noise yet, although I'm coming from Jeep Liberty, which pretty much makes everything seem quiet.

I won't be adding the door moldings. Like others have said, I'm not sure that it would really make a difference.

Having only had my Rogue for a short period of time, I haven't had issues yet to know if Nissan will be responsive, but am hoping they are.

Don't have the Venom Red, so can't comment. Having the Wicked Black, I am concerned about scratches, etc. also. Time will tell. It's my first black car.

Mostly I wanted to say, best of luck and I think you'll be very happy with your new Rogue. Enjoy!

No dings yet! Just jinxed myself (I park as far away from a store as possible)

I think it is very quiet ( just put on moon roof deflector), but My music is usually too loud to notice.

Door sill issue:Have not seen the service manager yet, told my salesman who apparently bought a red one for his wife, and said "thanks" I'm going to stop on the way home and get the clear strips for hers.

1. Just bought mine today and there is already a ding about half way up the drivers side door I dunno if moldings would have helped or not

2. Personally I think noise levels are best in this class....compared to the CRV its sooo much better.

3. Can not say yet

4. Just got it and I can see any and all blemishes, but I have a very meticulous eye for things like that. The Venom Red Paint is not really great either. There seems to be a lot of orange peel in the paint. A bit disappointed on that part.

This is one expense you can skip. I have 15,345 miles on my Rogue, purchased last October 1. There are no dings, dents or scratches on either side, and I live in the Hudson Valley, which is largley rural but which also has pockets of density (like big shopping malls).

2) I hear stories about excessive noise inside the car, especially in passenger area. How bad is it really? I am not that sensitive to noise but if it is distracting then I would like to know.

There's a bit of a hum between 25 and 40 MPH but nothing we object to. We're too busy having fun with the CVT.

3) How responsive has Nissan been to concerns and issues with the Rogue?

I wouldn't know, because I have none.

4) How noticeable on Venom Red are scratches, swirls, etc..

Again, since I have the blue, I don't know. (The blue shows a deep scratch, but Nissan's touch-up paint has a roller that fits the 'groove' from the scratch well enough to hide it pretty well.)
